Benelli or Beretta?

In the market for a new shotgun primarily for waterfowl. I’ve heard the pros and cons from hunting buddies who use both. I’m torn and tempted to just say “Why not both?”

I tend to agree with TheBoo, but I would recommend whichever gun fits you better and feels better to you. If you have the opportunity to try shooting them first, even better.

Beretta. And clean it more often

Benelli or Beretta?
Yes
High level thoughts - I like benelli better for upland style hunting and beretta better for typical Louisiana duck hunting.
I'm a benelli fan. I find them lighter, trimmer, and easier to carry. I like their 3" guns best (monefeltro based) vs the SBE 3.5" stuff. That said, Benelli SBE is THE duck gun all across the south. My style of duck hunting used to involve a pretty far walk every morning and really close shooting, and I really liked the ultra light for that. How the gun was to swing and follow through on wasn't super important because it was far more point shooting than anything. I only use 2 3/4" shells and the recoil was still pretty stiff from the ultralight. It was just so extremely light that 3" shells were brutal. I've hunted with a SBE2 with 3" and 3.5" shells and it was awful. Better than the ultralight with 3" shells, maybe, but damn it sucks. Maybe I'm just a bitch, but I don't understand how guys do that to themselves all year. If you like to use artillery, get a beretta.
I think Beretta makes a better duck blind gun. They shoot softer and from what I hear from dove hunting guides, last far longer than anything else made including benellis. If most of your getting there is motorized, or you are a high volume shooter, or you like using those artillery shells, Beretta is probably the better pick. Maybe a little more involved to clean than a SBE, which can be broken in half pressure washed slapped back together and dragged out for another hunt. It won't be a problem though. Berettas will run extremely dirty.
Of course, both are top of the line. I think it just depends on your style of hunting and what your individual tastes are. They both make very excellent shotguns for every use. Reliability is a wash between the two in my experience.
ETA: If you are a salt water hunter, I am told that benellis hold up to that a little better than Berettas, but I don't have any first hand experience with that.

You can't go wrong. I'm a big Beretta fan but can't deny Benelli quality.

Gas > Inertia
I have both. The gas guns are much heavier but no recoil. Inertia are much lighter but kick like a mule. It really depends for me what I am hunting.

Man, I have to tell you, I own a Benelli M2 20ga, a Beretta A400 xcel 12ga, Winchester SX4 12ga, two SX4 20ga, and a Browning Gold Hunter 12ga, and I would look really hard at the SX4. They are awesome guns and very easy to clean, etc. Same action as the Gold Hunter. Took an SX4 and the gold hunter goose hunting in OK right before Christmas and had zero issues with either. My son shot the SX4 and I shot the gold hunter.
I should add, I also really like the Benelli and Beretta, but for the money, I just don't see a reason to spend that much when you can get a really great gun cheaper.

Also, for what it is worth, the Franchi affinity is an amazing shotgun, especially for the price.

I have both. If you want a lifetime shotgun, Benelli. If you want to use it until the stock starts dissolving and then have no parts available to fix it, Beretta. Benelli will stand behind their product. Beretta will not. With that said Beretta’s mechanics are fantastic — their furniture is a liability.

Hell yeah, get both if able!
Beretta A400 in 12 gauge
Benelli Montefeltro in 20 gauge
I pity the ducks above you!

The first time I ever experienced a benelli the ol boy who I was guiding for had one and it never went in a case and would lay across the ribs of an air boat or duck boat getting salt spray and mud on it. This was before duck dynasty days and every time he pulled it up it went “boom, boom, boom” .
I knew then tbat it would be the only semiautomatic shotgun I would buy, I have had a SBE since 2005 and it’s never gave me an issue.

Both are great, I have both and my personal preference is Beretta

Depends what you prefer
Ergonomics, cleaner shooting, and lighter weight - Benelli
Less recoil - Beretta

I'm a beretta guy, I primarily shoot a 25 yr old 391 rather than a400.extrema. I only shoot 3" shells. The beretta just fits me better. I tried to shoot a m2 a cpl of yrs back but just couldn't get comfortable with it even changing shims etc. Both are great find the one you like and fits you. Or as you say get them both ;)

As a Benelli Man, get a Beretta.
