If tweet fails to load, click here. Now the outgoing administration says the money is mostly spent, and there isn’t enough to pay $10,000 bonuses for officers who agreed to stick around for three years.
An estimated $8 million to $12 million is due to officers this month, but less than $4 million from the city’s appropriation of American Rescue Plan Act funds for the effort remains, according to a Dec. 23 email from a Cantrell administration official to Mayor-elect Helena Moreno, who takes office on Jan. 12.

Good timing. Just a few weeks until parades start.

How much did your wonderful mayor spend on vacations?

Let's be honest, if you survived those 3 years you probably didn't work that hard.

I hope they strike and parades are cancelled.
Teach this city as lesson on budgeting, and paying what is owed.

Yeah, MG may be a shitshow this year. I wonder how many officers will quit because of this.

They won’t quit.
They don’t have money to pay OT or surrounding departments to help, like they normally do.
I don’t think MG happens anyway, but IF it does they’ll be shortened routes and/or organizations going to JP.

They won’t have the police manpower to pay OT.
Parades use OT and surrounding departments to run.
The organizations will have to pony up if they want to run normal routes. You’ll see.

Think this through.

They will not quit. Too many side grifts to protect businesses with 'security details'.

Not defending tha destroya, but how much bogus OT did those poor LEOs use up. Just curious.

I would be really worried about future pension pay outs from NOLA. I believe Detroit had to settle paying 50% less than what retired employees were owed.

Hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Who knew law enforcement was a work from home job?

This is true for almost all public pensions. Government made promises they can't keep.

City collects a ton of cash in January from property taxes
There will be cash to pay OT.
Now, we might have problems later this year…
