Fishing Pole Advice

Hey first time poster on the outdoor board but figured I could get some good suggestions here.
I am going on a fishing trip in April down to MS coast to fish for Redfish on some of the coastal islands. I am not a big fisherman but need some recommendations on a good fishing pole that I should purchase to take down there. I would like something pretty decent quality but dont want to break the bank. Thanks in advance.

depends on what your budget is, but don't suggest buying cheap. A decent one will last you forever.
Shimano
Waterloo
Falcon
Diawa
Search any of those in a medium action 7 foot casting version.

Do you have to bring your own or do you just want to bring your own? If the later, I'd probably recommend a "spinning setup" since baitcasters have more of a learning curve unless you make them so tight you can only throw 10ft. Shimano or Diawa on a medium fast rod for me. If you are going with a guide or a buddy with a boat I'm sure both would have a pole you can use.

Penn Battle combo is hard to beat.

Really need a budget but here are a few tips
7 ft medium action spinning
3000 size spool
Preferred brands are Shimano and Daiwa for inshore. Penn is also quality. Pflueger and Okuma are good value.
Pair a rod and reel or combo with the above specs in your budget which I would say should be a minimum of $100-150 and you will be good to go.

I have been told the captain doesn't have poles that can be used.
As far as budget goes, I was hoping to keep it 200 or under.

That would be a first that a charter boat didn’t have tackle to use? Who is the charter with?

Honestly not sure at the moment. Guy I know goes with his father in law and a few other guys every year and have been invited a few times and finally took him up on it

What types of fishing techniques do you plan to use? A rod for popping corks will be different than a rod for jigging.

Oh gotcha, sounds like a personal boat. Lots of good recs in here for you, baw.

I’d think anyone inviting a crew to fish on his boat would (should) have a spare spinning rig or 2.

Please do not refer to it as a fishing pole in the presence of other fishermen. Use the term fishing rod. The only fishing pole is a cane pole.

For your situation
Would be a great choice.
3000 size reel
~7ft rod
30lb PowerPro

I know plenty folks who could fill a boat with bass, redfish and trout who call them "fishing poles".

7’ Falcon Coastal Medium
Academy had a sale where they were $50ish bucks recently and I bought 4.
Awesome rods.
I like medium so I can bounce the jig off the bottom.

If Im you, I go get a $50-75 6'6 or 7' medium action spinning rod. And spend the rest of your budget on a a shimano reel - Model depends on how much left you want to spend but can get a good one for $150.

This is exactly what I'd buy save for the 30lbs pp. I'd buy 20lbs, but you'll be set.
Also, as soon as you're able, wash the rod and reel down with fresh water. All of it.
