Maybe she thinks that taking her chances in a fair election beats the alternative.

What choice did she have? I'm sure Rubio made it clear, "You will work with us or you will join Maduro".

Trump said in tonight's press gaggle that she would suffer a "fate worse than Maduro" if she didn't behave.

They welcome cooperation within the framework of International Law?

frick International Law. You will operate in the interest of the citizens of Venezuela as the US determines, or you will be replaced. You are an artifact of an illegitimate government.

The election is just a formality. Machado will be installed regardless of who Venezuelans want.

Our own government shits on our constitution and merely gives the illusion of choice. You guys act like we have legit elections - we don't.

They will get replaced by someone who lets the assets of the country get bought off.

Yeah I read that as she was calling out Donald Trump.

Defending Maduro.

And hiding behind international law and the world leaders.

I read it as a capitulation. She didn't condemn our attack that killed around 40 Venezuelans/Cubans. She didn't condemn our taking Maduro.

She stressed Venezuela's willingness to co-operate. Given the circumstances, this was about as knee-bendy as it could have been.

In the gaggle tonight, Trump stressed the urgency of restoring oil production. He barely mentioned holding new elections.

I think Trump has found a partner he can work with in Venezuela and there's no need to change that.

She has the background to co-operate with American oil companies....

####

Delcy Rodríguez has developed strong ties with Republicans in the oil industry and on Wall Street who balked at the notion of U.S.-led regime change.

Among her past interlocutors was Blackwater founder Erik Prince and, more recently, Richard Grenell, a Trump special envoy who tried to negotiate a deal with Maduro for greater U.S. influence in Venezuela.

Fluent in English, Rodríguez is sometimes portrayed as a well-educated moderate in contrast to the military hard-liners who took up arms with Chávez against Venezuela’s democratically elected president in the 1990s.

That sounds like a bunch of BS. I know some Chavistas, and they all believe won't shite change in Venezuela. They all think their gravy train will keep flowing. I hope they're wrong.

She has a fine line she has to walk imo.

What she is saying to Rubio etc is more important than what's public consumption.

I’d place my bet that she’s just making arrangements for a comfortable life with her family in Maryland or Long Island like every other opposition leader friendly to the US government dating as far back as Chiang Kai shek.
