I hate to brake it to them, but just walking around aint gonna do jack when trying to bring about world peace, you have to actually go out and do something to acheve it, this is just one step above just standing there waiting on something to happen!

Reminds me of that exchange in Rambo:

Missionaries: we are here to make a real change.

Rambo: did you bring guns?

Missionaries: of course not!

Rambo: then you won't be changing anything.

Could have saved a lot of time and miles going from Fort Worth do East to Shreveport instead of going down to Austin and Houston.

You know how hard is it to walk in bare feet from Texas to DC regardless of the weather? Maybe they are not going to achieve world peace but they are definitely affecting some of the people they come across. This is a genuine unselfish act where they ask nothing in return and you criticizing them reflects what kind of person you are.

Isn't everything a Buddhist monk does for peace?

As per the route map they are going through Ellick, not NOLA.

Back in the day, monks set themselves on fire for peace. Sad to see them go soft.

They came through here yesterday. Stopped in Fayetteville to have lunch then stayed in Morrow overnight. Walking to Decatur today before heading out of town.

I think it's awesome what they're doing. They truly practice what they preach.

On Nov. 19, two of the monks were hurt when a truck driver ran into a pilot vehicle that was accompanying the group on a highway in Dayton, Texas. The pilot vehicle pushed into the two monks, and they were both hospitalized.

As a result of the crash, one of the monks had to get a leg amputation.

Funny they never march for peace in places that aren't peaceful

Oh, they do: 2007 demonstrations in Burma, monks were killed, tortured, and imprisoned because of peacefully demonstrating against the junta. Thich Nhat Hahn and his fellow monks and lay followers provided natural disaster aid under threat of attack by government forces, had their temple destroyed 3 times, and he was finally banished from Vietnam by the communists. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. There are plenty of other examples. No serious Buddhist monk believes something like this will "achieve world peace". These guys (and Aloka the dog) are the real deal, and they're reaching/supported by a lot of people in this endeavor, showing by example how people - regardless of religion - can develope more peace and happiness in their lives and the lives of others. One step at a time.

I think that's a good thing.

Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam have all been incredibly violent places where Buddhist monks have marched and protested.
