With the way the NFL set up the week 18 schedule... there's a way that the Bucs & Panthers will be sitting on their couches as the Saints & Falcons determine which of TB or CAR wins the division and goes to the playoffs

For that to happen... Atlanta needs to beat the Rams tonight (highly unlikely... I'm sure that's why the NFL felt comfortable putting the games on different days)

Then Tampa needs to beat Carolina on Saturday

That would set up a scenario where a Falcon win over the Saints sets up a 3-way tie... which Carolina wins to give the Panthers the division

So the Panthers would be cheering for the Falcons & the Bucs would be cheering for the Saints

Regardless... it would be hilarious if a division championship & home playoff game was ultimately decided by 2 teams who were long eliminated from playoff contention

Or bring more eyeballs onto the Saints/Falcons game Sunday. NFL, for all their flaws, know how to work the schedule. Of course it’s because money is involved.

Is it common opponent or does it go even further to conference record? They'd have the same division record (all three). Either way, wild scenario.

And if the Saints don't stall in the red zone at the end of the game against the Cardinals in week 1, we could be looking at a 4-way tie

Yes... common opponent tiebreaker is what wins it for the Panthers if it gets to the 3-way tie between the Panthers, Bucs, & Falcons

Which tiebreaker criteria give them the division? Honest question because I do not know.

You wouldn't think the falcons would beat the Rams, but then again, the last time the Rams traveled across country to play an NFC South team. The Panthers took them down.

Another interesting tidbit. The Rams own the falcons first round pick for next year's draft.

Imagine being a fly on the wall in the Rams building that night when that trade went down.

2010 NFC West with 7-9 Seahawks division winner where they finished 2 games ahead of the last place team comes to mind.

Then the 7-9 Seahawks beat the defending Super Bowl Champion Saints in the first round of the NFL playoffs.

That Saints team went into that game so badly injured

And I'm pretty sure the Saints were a missed field goal away from the much-needed bye week that year

For some stupid reason the Seahawks got to host that game. It's a stupid NFL rule

A missed Hartley FG from the 1 seed, not just a bye.
