I love those jerseys me.
I'm talking about the traditional dark purple.
I can't believe the team didn't wear them this year

Long time ago Purple Jerseys were bad luck. So LSU stopped wearing them for a few years. Now they wear them for sure win games.

Paul Dietzel created the current basic uniform look with white jersey, gold pants, with the striping look on both, in the mid 1950s. I don’t know when the purple jersey alternate was introduced, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t until some years later. Maybe some time in the 70s.

GaTech and LSU both preferred white home jerseys so I'm guessing at some point in between 1933-1963 LSU played at GaTech and had to wear some colored jersey.
I think the mandate by the NCAA to wear a white home jersey happened in the late 70s or early 80s after there was a mixup in some game and both teams showed up with only white jerseys. So the NCAA overreacted.

First year this millennium that they haven't been worn. There ought to be some way they can be incorporated into our uniform scheme.
I like gold-purple-gold-- the traditional way prior to 1980 when they were only used as a ROAD uniform. Even then, we only wore them one game a year-- at Kentucky, or at Florida, sometimes at Miss. St or at Miami. I would personally like to see G-P-G for all our road trips and G-W-G for all home games, and no more alternates, anywhere.

I grew up in Tiger Stadium ( I’m in my 60’s) I’m pretty sure LSU didn’t wear purple jerseys until they were mandated by the NCAA to wear purple jerseys. I’m sure they probably wore them but I don’t remember them ever wearing them.

Hell, looks like they had a purple alternate as early as the 60s. This is Jerry Stovall.
ETA, Is that Ga Tech, as you suggest???

I agree. The boys in the equipment room let us down. Are those boys even from Louisiana? Disappointed.

This is obviously at the top of list of things to be concerned about. Oh the horror.
Seriously, I didn’t notice or care. I personally hate the all white uniforms but they can wear tutus as long as we win. FWIW I’ve always liked the purple jerseys with gold pants.
