My folks are at my sister’s place with the rest of the fam, because my sister has tried to monopolize her traditional Christmas. I stayed back because today was my day with my daughter. She turns 2 in February. Here I am now, drinking some fine ale this evening, but in moderation, with absolutely nothing on the slate for the next 48 hours.

The only thing depressing was having to drop off my daughter. There is a sense of peace having a quiet house and not hitting the road for a 4 hour drive in the morning. I’ve been trying to see the positive in things. To all you others flying solo tonight…

wife is in Virginia tending to her mother who has had a very rough year (stroke, death of spouse, move to assisted living) and her equally impaired but still at home aunt. They are all the family she has left.

My daughter is in town from Rhode Island but is with her mother tonight I’ll see her tomorrow for a few days.

My parents moved to Arkansas my sister and brother are up there with them.

so, solo tonight. Beer is cold, music is groovy, dogs are cool. Could be worse but definitely could be better

On the road for work. In Seoul right now. Headed to Hong Kong in a couple hours. Trying to decide if I’ll stay in the hotel and watch Christmas movies or go out and get drunk with Asian chicks.

If “flying solo” with my buds on the OT is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.

Yes sir. Can’t complain. I guess I’m not solo…I have the border collie next to me. We are both still mourning the loss of the other dog, but he gave us 12 great years. Those pups were there through my lowest of lows, and I can’t help but think he waited to pass until he knew I would be ok.

This is the answer. What is their preference in men these days?

Been separated most of this year. Holidays are way different, sometimes I miss the constant stress and commotion, but I live and learn

It’s wild, but I reflected back on that too. Christmas for me was about appeasing in-laws, parents, and siblings. I never had a choice in what to do. Here we are, pressured to buy gifts for other adults because the calendar says so…drive for several hours to get to a house that’s bursting with energy, and not always the good kind. I see my brother in law get my sister the latest gadget from Apple, and my other sister gets a diamond ring.

That’s nice, but the reason for the season is lost, even on us, despite going to church and generally being “right”.

The holidays should be about love and happiness. Christmas Vacation is all too real, and Chevy Chase is all of us.

Maybe you should have brought your daughter to your sisters’ house instead of selfishly staying home alone. Pretty common sense stuff here

My sister lives over 4 hours away. I needed to have her back by 6:30 tonight. I mean. I guess I could have picked her up and driven up for lunch, then immediately turned around after and got her back in time. How selfish of me to opt for more quality time with her.

The dog and I are hanging on the couch.

I was planning on a totally solo Christmas and just got a text from my ex saying the kids, her, and her new husband want me to join them for dinner tomorrow.

Wife and I are separated, no kids. She will come over tomorrow for present swapping and dinner. Alone tonight. I remember the many Christmases with family when my parents were alive. I enjoyed them but I'm not sad. Things are just different now, a different stage of life, it's all good
