Kubrick a lot less predictable in his directing style and movie choices

I'm on team Kubrick but Nolan is outstanding

For me this movie puts him ahead of Nolan

Yeah, it isn't close. Kubrick is probably the most singularly unique filmmaker in cinema history.

Nolan, hands down. Kubrick is insanely overrated.

Kubrick and it’s not close.

Film syntax. Kubrik has it in spades.
See the mannequin scene towards the end of the killing, for example.
Or Danny on his big wheel rumbling thru empty wings of the hotel, from carpet to hardwood and back to carpet. Impeccable sound design.
Or the dialogue free first however many minutes of 2001.
Nolan needs to drop down half a weight class, grab some more casual stuff, and aspire to more of a Ridley Scott level oeuvre imo.

There is Kubrick and then there is everyone else.
Just the depth on which he considered each aspect of a production and his understanding of light + framing

Kubrick is a better film maker. Nolan is a better movie maker.

Kubrick right now, but Nolan has so many years ahead of him he will pass him up eventually

A more interesting question would be:
Spielberg or Nolan
Spielberg or Nolan

Kubrick is an all time cinematic icon.
Nolan is outstanding for today, and is a leader among current working directors (during his time)......but I have to admit that the current crop of director talent is pretty weak, as are the movies being made now.
He is not in the same league with Kubrick, Scorsese, Coppola, Hitchcock.

When Nolan learns to have at least B movie quality sound mixing again we can talk about him being up there.

One can make good movies without being a complete asshat so I’ll go Nolan. Both are overrated
