If, let’s say you’re coffee is 5.01 or 5.05 and all you have is $5 and don’t want to use my credit card, is it ok to just hand over a 5 dollar bill?

Are asking if it’s ok to pay less for an item because you don’t want to take out your credit card?

If they have a give a penny take a penny situation you use that. If not you use your card

I usually offer to finger the cashier for that extra few cents.

Why are you ordering coffee that costs more than $5 then? Life is hard enough without creating more problems

When it’s a total like that and I’m buying my fenceposts, cigs, and scratchy lotteries the cashier always says “no problem hon you’re here all the time”

I usually start fumbling around with my pockets and tell them I'll be right back after grabbing change from the car. Almost 100% of the time they tell you not to worry about it and/or grab some loose coins that other customers didn't want back sitting on the register.

Well, what you are really asking is... is it okay to pay less than the cost of an item simply because I don't have enough cash to pay for the item.
And no, that is not okay. Either make sure you have enough money beforehand or use your card. You ain't special.

Yep. Just grab your drink and hand the cashier a fiver and be on your way.

Please report back about your successes moving forward.

Give they/them the $5 and write a check for the balance.

You want them to take a nickel loss every coffee? Do you want your paycheck cut?

Same principle, just less pleasing aroma afterward.
