My folks want to go this year. Where's the best place to go? St. James or St. John Parish? And where in each parish?

Anything I should know about parking or traffic etc?

If you’re going to Lutcher you’d better know someone who will let you park at their house.

Paulina/Lutcher area. You'll have to park several blocks off River Road and walk in.
Last year, we just parked in front of someone's house after asking permission.
They had zero problems and even offered us some gumbo.

Good times, good times,

First, during daylight, go see Blood, Sweat, and Bonfires in Garyville. They build a very elaborate bonfire each year. Usually, it is some kind of animal.

To get the full effect of seeing bonfires burning one after another down the levee (and fireworks), go to Lutcher and Gramercy. If your parents can walk a good ways, park on the highway (or farther inland from the river if you can find a spot)and walk along the road and/or on the levee. You could park at one end and walk to or at least towards the other. Depending on how bad the traffic/parking is, you may have to park where you have to walk just to get where the bonfires start.

You can try to drive it, but the traffic may be at a standstill until everything is winding down.

Get there very early. The traffic just to get in the area can be crazy.

Of course it's subjective and some may think it's not worth the effort. To me, it's something that must be seen.

I go to St John Parish(Reserve. Park at the Liberry) and hang out with some friends who make one. It's much more tame and less people than Lutcher.

But it's admittedly more families hanging around their own bonfires. Still a great time and no traffic or hoodrats.

Is there any drone footage of them burning from above where you can see them lined up?

We go every year, be prepared to walk, we have 2 friends whose families have places within a block or 2 of river road, but we park further and walk for easier egress.

Damn, that's excellent. "Really nice creation you have there. Be a shame if something were to, say, happen to it."

Just when a person hates on Louisiana to critical mass, things like this reel us back in…

Public outings in a large crowd for christmas celebration is not the place for anyone with half a brain to be. Take your weapon.
