Fallout from G5 being locked out

What happens?
Bowls have been devalued to nothing so that’s not something to play for anymore. A G5 playoff won’t be valued very much either.
I know it’ll be argued they can just be good enough to be ranked in the top 12, but that’s not realistic either given the committee aspect, NIL, and the transfer portal.
I guess I’m less interested in discussing whether they should or shouldn’t have G5 auto bids…but rather what happens if those go away? Are schools okay with being farm teams? What would they be playing for?

Likely a lawsuit from the G5 conferences against the NCAA for locking them out of an opportunity to compete for a championship.
I mean they're never going to win a title. Its more about the money. The 4 million payment to the Sunbelt for JMUs appearance here is worth $285,000 per team. Thats a lot of money to programs running in the red.

Put this type game on at the same time as a Miami Texas am game and less bitching cause no one would watch and everybody wins

Speaking of teams with no chance, that team of lawyers for the NCAA don’t do a lot of winning

The CFP is a separate entity from the NCAA right?

Compared to the major playoff it wouldn’t be, but I think it would be valued more than you imagine.
Bowl games between G5 teams consistently pull better ratings than regular season college basketball games between blue bloods. There’s just a ton of demand for football and a ton of demand for football around Christmas and New Year’s when people are off work.

Why didn’t this happen when they were effectively locked out in the BCS and 4 team CFP era?

The CFP is independent of the NCAA.
And the easy solution is to simply eliminate conference championships from automatic bids and just set the highest-ranked teams 1-12 as the criteria for being in the CFP

Because they weren’t technically locked out.

I don’t think anyone serious is advocating to ban them completely.

This is the way.
However the SEC and B1G would end up screwing that up as both conferences are going to start demanding a guaranteed number of slots for their teams.

Time for a power 4 championship playoff
And non-power 4 championship playoff
And non-power 4 championship playoff

If you do this you have to eliminate conference championship games and just award a regular season champ.

Just sell the slots to the 12 highest bidders. Then let them buy their teams. That would cut to the chase.

That's a playoff a team like Tulane could win. Two separate 8 team playoffs would be fair enough. 12 may be too many...

This is the way. Best 12 teams, period.

That seems to be exactly what's being proposed. And the idea that the 'CFP is separate from the NCAA' somehow means that anti-trust laws magically don't apply is kind of silly. I'm certain that the posters suggesting otherwise are more than intelligent enough to understand that if they'd just think it through logically for a bit.

The ironic part of this argument is that everyone in the Big 10, Big 12, ACC or SEC can win a title.
Miss St, Vandy, Kentucky, and Arkansas have a near zero chance of winning a title either. shite Arkansas and Miss St have won what 2 SEC games in the past 3 seasons?

That seems true, but who would have predicted Indiana as a top team a few years ago. Things can change quick in the current NIL/portal era.
