I’ve done the simple search and got nothing. Planning a first trip, 10-12 days in Greece in May.

How much time in Athens?
Which islands to visit?

Just Wife and I. Like food, culture, architecture, visual beauty (in that order).

2-3 days in Athens was sufficient for me. A day trip to Delphi was included in those 3 days. I visited Santorini, Rhodes, and Mykonos. Santorini was beautiful (I did the hike from Fira to oía) but extremely crowded. Rhodes was an amazing walled city and fun to explore. Mykonos was sort of like a less crowded Santorini during the day then a party during the night until dawn.

Look at some of the lesser options like Paros too. Santorini is gorgeous but very tourist heavy. There are so many islands and most are easy to get to

I wish we had spent less time on Crete.

Santorini and Naxos were awesome.

Athens was incredible. Don't get the hate

Thank you all for the insight. This is helpful as I try to put a 10-12 day plan together.

Be flexible, they go on strike a lot. My hotel in Athens had a chalkboard next to the front desk, listing which group was on strike. One day it was the buses, another day it was the tran line, one day it was the taxis, we were only there 4 days.

You need two days at most in Athens. We did a day and saw everything we wanted to and then some. Spend your time in the islands.

We are going on a cruise departing from Athens in April.
We are going up a few days early and are spending three nights on Hydra. We chose Hydra primarily because of its proximity to the Athens port. It is an hour and a half ferry ride away.

If you click here you can keep track of all the strikes. Just use Chrome and then right click on the page and choose "translate to English."

There is also a bunch of info like holidays etc.

I'm guessing that you weren't there in late July, when the temp was over 100 degrees and the crowds were insane. That's usually the reason for Athens hate.

I think we went in December? Can't remember. I just know we only planned to spend two days in Athens when we first got there. We loved it so much, we actually added a day on the back end to spend more time in Athens.

Athens 2 nights, Santorini 3 nights. All good.

But then, my agent has me on Crete 5 days - 2 nights Heraklion, 3 nights Chania. She "struggled" to find luxury hotel in Naxos as it's more rustic.

Paros as a 2 night option as well, but I think I'll limit number of locations to 4.

Has anyone here tackled the monasteries of Meteora? Photography is enchanting.

We spent about the same time on both sides of Crete. I wish we had only spent a couple of days there.

Naxos we rented an airbnb right on the water. It was great

Yes and it was spectacular. Make sure to dress appropriately.
