I don’t have a dog in this fight but I am legit interested in the reasoning.

I have noted a group of people who detest folks who stand up when the plane gets to the gate and the seatbelt sign goes off. Why does it bother you?

In my mind, if it helps them get off the plane faster I am all for it. I would prefer to save my hate for the people who frick around for a minute while everyone else is waiting to deplane.

Tell me why. I am curious.

Some folks are having back issues. Some are anxious.

I can wait my turn to stand. When I do finally stand it is a relief. Also a sense of solid ground again. Since the floor is no longer 33000 feet in the air.

The aisle passengers who get up and start to gather their belongings while remaining at their row don't bother me. It's the folks who push their way up the aisle when the plane is on-time.

I consider these folks the same as those who don't return their shopping cart to the corral.

They're the same folks who talk on full-volume speaker phone while checking out at the grocery store.

For me it’s just amusing.

These people are standing up, to possibly get off the plane faster than maybe 2-3 people in front of them, just t have to stand in line to get their valet tagged carry-on…Most times after the person they cut in front of back on the plane.

So what purpose did it serve to begin with?

I don’t mind letting people who are obviously in a rush pass through first. I’ve had connecting flights to catch. What pisses me off are people who despite seeing the rows in front of them empty, take their sweet fricking time to get up, locate their bag…”ohh, which overhead was it in again…hmmm” then slowly start to gather their belongings while the entire plane in front of them has deplaned. This puts everyone behind you in a stall, much like driving with assholes that brake irregularly in front of you on the highway.

Anticipate. Your. fricking. Turn.

If I am aisle then I will stand just to block people from running up the aisle.

Agree 100%, if you need to rush to catch your connecting flight then by all means

This happens far too often and is part of the reason that I have a few drinks before flying.

It's not the standing up people don't like, its standing up and trying to rush to the front of the plane.

I've never "had" to deplane to catch another flight. I just wait my turn and hopefully my overhead bag is not behind me.

Why do you GAF? I packed my carry-on when they told everyone to prep for landing 12,000 feet ago. You can wait with all the people that are shocked when they get to the gate and have to start collecting their crap.

Yesterday I was seated next to a guy that I had to wave down help for him to stand up because he was old and I had no leverage at the window to assist. If anyone qualified for a wheelchair, it was probably him. Was I upset? No. It was all the frickers in the 20 forward rows that acted confused that they needed to get off the plane when we were at the gate, after we spent more than 20 minutes waiting for the gate to clear.

Because queuing is a common courtesy that still (should) exist in society.

I'm talking about people that rush the front of the plane immediately. Sometimes knocking others out of the way. All while we've arrived at our gate 12 minutes early.

The point is that it doesn't. You're standing there for no reason because you still have to wait on the people in front of you to get off so you end up standing there looking like a doofus for 20 minutes.

If you are standing up to stretch your legs or something then cool, but most people just look dumb thinking they are going to get off sooner by standing in place. And look even worse if they actually try to move up and get off before others.

Let's say I'm on an Airbus 321, 3x3 & I'm in the aisle. I'm standing up for a few reasons. I hate sitting on a plane. Next it's to give some space for the person in the middle & window seat to stretch out before they stand. And finally, it's to block folks behind me to allow those people in the middle & window seat to get out & grab their stuff.

It's annoying and i don't mind people in the aisle seat getting up and starting to get ready to deplane or the rare occasion someone is cool and lets everyone know they're tight on a connection. Although i've seen people lie about that and just get off first then go sit at a bar.

And if yo think it's bad domestically, try a flight anding in India. Those frickers have zero clue about personal space, lines, order or anything else. Watching the Germans in munich fight then back from the priority boarding lines is one of many funny parts about going over there.

In any given airplane aisle, two people want immediate access with two people, if not more, waiting to access. Said aisle fits one person. If you add a jackass from rows further back forcing their way forward, it complicates the situation further. Now, if someone is still in their seat dithering about, by all means, keep walking. But if someone is trying to get out of their seat to grab their overhead (which they literally aren't allowed to do until the plane reaches the gate) by have been blocked up to this point, stop walking forward and let them out. If you continue walking and block them, you and every person after you who do so are jackasses.

And I say all of that as someone who never checks a bag, practically never has to gate check bags because I don't carry fullsized carry-ons, and always get packed up ahead of schedule. Flying is chaotic and stressful for some people. Don't be a dick.

I hate how everyone stands around right in front of the boarding gate before their section is even called. You have to weave in and out of a bunch of people to board the plane when they are all in group 9. Sit your arse down until your group number is called.
