quote:

"I'd say in terms of domestic expansion, that is something we're continuing to look at," Silver said at a news conference before the NBA Cup championship game between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night. "It's not a secret we're looking at this market in Las Vegas. We are looking at Seattle. We've looked at other markets, as well. I'd say I want to be sensitive there about this notion that we're somehow teasing these markets, because I know we've been talking about it for a while.

They can have the Pelicans, and take Gayle with them.

It's like having 100 best friends, at a certain point people just can't keep up.

It's the top 10-20 guys (that people can recognize) who actually marketable & push the league beyond mere basketball. Adding more teams won't do anything to change that fact.

And who moves to East?

Minny/Memphis/NO? One of these teams gets lucky going to softer east.

And that means a draft from current team’s roster. I assume 1 player from each team and can protect 9 players?

Also redoes divisions currently 5/5/5 so with 16 each conf do they go 4/4/4/4.

Agreed.

Less would be more for the NBA. Less teams. Less games. Less teams reaching the playoffs. But it won't happen because media rights drive the league and more markets = more money

The NFL is falling into this trap too. What makes the NFL the most popular sport isn't simply the game itself. It's the scarcity relative to other major sports. Only 1 game (per team) a week for (now) 17 weeks, followed by a one month playoff in a lose or go home format. Yet, all we hear about is potential expansion of the league, the season and (recently) the playoff field.

It's kind of like Christmas. It's great because it's only one time a year. But if Christmas were 162 days a year over the course of 6 months each individual day would lose it's excitement.

The best things always leave you wanting more

They’ll expand. Too much money to be lost by not expanding. The watered down product won’t matter, they’ll still get TV contracts

Imagine the terd level players that will get max contracts when you add two more teams to the equation

The NBA not having a team in Seattle is idiotic. Given the city of Las Vegas and the state of Nevadas propensity to spend public money luring pro franchises, and the NBA being the only league not getting in on the fun, Vegas is a lock. Place has been a gold mine for expansion in all other leagues.

They had some hard core fans. It's always been known as a basketball town. Jason Terry was from there. He told us about Brandon Roy when he was in high school. He'd always tell everyone about the good guys at Arizona, but you could tell the Seattle guys he knew real well. Jason's whole family lived with him in Dallas during the season, but they went back to Seattle in the offseason and he helped with an AAU team.

Love the old unis.

I loved the five years When Ray Allen was there because those were the only years we got to see him play more than once in a season. Rashard Lewis was on those teams too. Gary Payton was out there during his prime too. In the 80's they had Payton, Tom Chambers, Dale Elis, Xavier McDainel, and Nate McMillan. Shawn Kemp was a really fun guy to watch.

Tom bought the Pels for $338 Million from the league in 2012. Gayle could sell them literally right now for $3.8-5 Billion, or move them to either Seattle of Vegas. I love the Pelicans but I don't see how or why the league would expand and end up with teams in cities like New Orleans or Memphis that are just doormats with owners who don't look like they give a flying frick about anything.

Seattle deserves a team much more than Vegas. They were super fricked by the Starbucks guy and David Stern.

Just go to 32 teams with 16 in each conference. It makes more sense anyhow to have no more than half the conference making the playoffs.

It may dilute the talent pool a little bit, but its crap now anyways, so this shouldn't hurt that bad.

Correct. If they were not, they would just say so.
