Was there a better shoot em up movie ever made? Pacino, DeNiro, Kilmer, Voight, Sizemore is an all star cast. Still watch it when ever it comes on.
Edited to say it was released 30 years ago.

Maybe Saving Private Ryan, The Wild Bunch or Tombstone.

It's a great movie, no doubt, but there's a bunch of great movies in the heist genre.

If we limit this to America, it's definitely in the top tier.
However, there are some Hong Kong movies that are better as "shoot em ups", like The Killer and Hard Boiled.

It’s a 10 out 10 masterpiece
To the jabroni saying about “plenty of heist movies” when Heat is THE heist movie

For realistic gunfire yes. If non-realistic I would throw the Matrix in the ring as well as others already mentioned.

There was a factual basis for the story and characters. Chuck Adamson was an interesting guy.
The way he finally kills Waingro is some classic shite. "Look at me."

I mean, it inspired loons to do the same thing in LA 20 something years ago.

The Long Riders is another movie with a great shoot 'em up scene at the end. They used the Carradine brothers to play the Younger brothers and the Keach brothers to play the James brothers.

The Raid is up there for me.
IIRC don’t they use the ambush scene in Heat as a textbook example of moving and reloading under fire?

That final bank robbery scene was pretty damn tactically proficient, don’t recall anything close to it at the time.

The Raid 2 is the one that's in the operatic crime epic style like Heat, if you haven't seen it.
