Just curious if any of y’all have seen him coach. He’s been around a long time and had a few different stops. Seems like most coaches, if he’s got some talent, he’s had some success. Coached Brandon Harris and Justin Rogers at Parkway.

Any behind-the-scenes thoughts or comments?

Sulphur has always had the numbers, but over the last decade kids just haven’t really wanted to play football. Feels like the numbers have dropped a little more every year. Coaching hasn’t helped either, to be honest.

Also coached Many, Minden, and Leesville

Wasn’t he the coach who banned Bama coaches?

Wherever he goes, drama follows.

Great coach though.

Sulpher is full of drama.

Reality is you can have numbers and lack talent. That is where sulpher is now, they are not what they used to be and they should accept that.

The competition is better.

Maybe they’re just too baseball focused… not just the school but the community

I think this is the #1 problem.

All of SWLA has this problem. Barbe was a 26 seed and that was the best we could do in 5A.

Iowa is the first Calcasieu parish school since 1972 to win a state title.

He’s coached a lot of different places, including at least one stint in Texas. Never seems to stay at the same place very long, and there’s been some controversy and drama at some of his stops.

However, his track record proves he can turnaround a team with quickness. Sulphur will improve noticeably over the next couple of seasons.

He’s been around a long time. He has to be in his 60’s.

Sulphur allows the booster parents to have their hands in the pot way too much. That's why there is always a revolving door of head football coaches.

not really....we dont have the talent we used to have. LCCP has all the speed and WM doesnt have coaching. Many of those kids used to go to Barbe before LCCP opened

Sulphur and Westlake depended a lot on talent from the Mossville area, that is where the speed came from....there is no mossville anymore

laura also hurt a lot of the areas that traditionally produced talent.

but barbes best players are baseball guys. Same with St Louis, Westlake amongst others.

but even if what you say is true and we have a baseball problem....its more a problem in that to be good enough to go play in college for baseball....you have to be outrageously good and must be a lot more physical than in years past. So kids want the off season to gain weight, train certain metrics etc. You can do both at a high level...the barbe kids do, but to be fair, they go to football practice then come hit and field Mon-thursday from about 6-730. But that is what it takes to be good at baseball.

but imo the biggest thing in SWLA...we dont have the old school coaches that had histories of winning for years upon years. They all retired about the same time the downturn happened. Coach Johns at Iowa is the one that came after that has carried the torch. But even when football was better in Calc Parish...werent many championships being won. Bunch of deep playoff runs and a couple runner ups

sulphur though....they dont have much talent. very very little. shocking how little actually.

i miss the early mid 90s and growing up when LaGrange and Barbe were massive rivals, and those games were nut to butt and always fights.

They hated each other and both were always in the top 10 in 5A. Seems like both are shells now.

I remember Chad Cooley fumbling late on the go-ahead TD and someone from LaGrange spray painted "What happened Cooley" on the brick at Barbe that weekend

The drama is because he doesn’t bend to the booster club. He runs shite his way and thats that.

Good coach. Finer man. Sulphur is fortunate to get him. He will expect hard work and tenacity and his teams will win in time. Not going to be out prepared.
