Their season starts in March, so I'm guessing they're getting ready to kick things off here in the next few weeks and he decided he doesn't want to go through it all. I don't think it's weird

I wish he had gotten back into college coaching a couple of years after retiring at OU. It would have been interesting to see what he could have done elsewhere. Although NIL and portal may have caused him to regret that decision quickly.

What kind of salary was he pulling in the UFL? I can't imagine it was that great

He will never coach at another college, unless it’s Youngstown State.

UFL is not doing well. They've eliminated GMs and now the HC also has to fill that roll. I'm guessing Stoops didn't want to have to do all that stuff. Pretty sure the league is losing Skip Holtz as a coach too. Probably for similar reasons.

Had no idea he was still coaching. OU finished #3, #5 and #6 in 3 of his last 4 years, so if he wanted to still be a big-time coach somewhere, he could have been. He just wanted to take it easy. He never had a losing season at OU and finished in the top 10 in 11 of his 18 seasons. He had a great run there even with retiring early basically.

I don’t understand why he’s there in the 1st place he should be coaching a D1 football team. 800 win percentage this guy must be getting blackballed.

Not everyone wants the grind of being a big time college head coach once you're already set for life

I'm surprised more coaches don't just call it quits in their prime more often

Blackballed? He could have coached another good college team if he had wanted. Obviously he hasn't wanted to put in the 365 day grind of being a big time college HC.

As far as the present and going forward, I could have seen him takeover Iowa if Kirk Ferentz had retired a few years ago. Bob could get his brothers a job and they all loved playing at Iowa.

I didn’t want to start a new thread but so is Skip Holtz. I wish he would go back to LT.
