Have a dilemma

I have a job that I work by myself and only answer to an out of state boss. Right now the first wave of layoffs has just hit this week.

Now I have been urged to apply for another role that would probably net 25k more a year. Only problem is that I would go back to overseeing reps and dealing with local management.

Not sure if he knows something that is coming down the pipeline for my role. Or he just wants some one he can trust underneath him.

$25K increase? Do it for a year and if it doesn't work... move on.

Sounds like your boss likes you enough to tell you that your position is at risk.

Also sounds like the company is getting rid of non-valued positions.

This isn't exactly cryptography. There's no reason not to apply. Better dealing with local management than dealing with the unemployment office.

Is $25K like a 10% raise or 25% raise?

Apply for the position and start looking around for another job.

All.of this.

Nice of your boss tbh. These times are used to purge people they dont like without getting thier hands dirty.

At my last job, during one of our monthly all hands meetings, they showed us how to access the job postings for other business units. I took the hint and started applying internally and externally. I think it was 2 months later that the 3rd rounds of RIFs in the year and a half post acquisition happened. Take the hint and keep quiet. Lessen the competition.

I pray for the day my company writes me a fat arse check to walk away.

If you’re being urged to take a new role they’re probably trying to save your arse. I wouldn’t overlook that nudge in a rif environment.

Restructurings are never comfortable. If someone has recommended you apply for a job that pays $25K more, someone is looking out for you. No decision…

If whoever is urging you has knowledge of reorganization plans, he’s doing you a favor. The world (in your organization) will change, be adaptive….
Been there, don’t end up unemployed….if you don’t like it later seek job while employed…

My company has recently gone through an acquisition and the fat cutting has finally made its way past corporate and down to us. A manager recently got the ax when they combined departments.

On a local level, we weren’t surprised it was that manager who got cut. He was the definition of a micromanager who didn’t know how to stay in his own lane and couldn’t take criticism. I don’t think they would have given him the opportunity they’re giving you.

I hate to see anyone lose their job, especially around the holidays, but, he was a douche.
