Name another true freshman that started every game as a true frosh at QB and lit it up?

At a power 4? If available, give me Underwood over the others. Say what you want about him not looking that impressive or he struggled this year, but the dude just turned 18 in August and started every game at Michigan as a true freshman. Battle tested, while dealing with a steep learning curve in a pedestrian offense. Shoot, Peyton Manning completed 62% of his passes with 11 TDs, 6 ints in the 7 games he started his freshman year.
We know the talent is there, so I love the idea of this guy developing under Kiffin with his schemes, and available for more than one season.

Im going to trust Kiffin. He's kind of known for his offenses, and recently grabbed a D2 QB and has him as a great SEC starter. I think his evaluation of talent speaks for itself.
But I'm sure tdubs from tigerdroppings is probably the second leading expert in the field.

Underwood may turn out to be great, but is he worth giving up a fourth of our budget?

I remember when everyone cried about LSU getting JD5…..10TDs and 10 INTs his last year at Arizona St.. “His teammates cleaned his locker out for him”….. Comes to LSU and wins a Heisman… would have won a Natty with a top 90 defense…
I remember

Nope, like you and the rest here, I'm simply a message board poster talking sports.

Hodson was a red shirt freshman and 19 years old. Underwood just turned 18. He's BY far the biggest get in the portal if he leaves.

Redshirt, but Hodson was awesome.

JARON-KEAWE SAGAPOLUTELE at Cal just threw for 3000 yds & 17 TDs
I’d take him over BU. Supposedly he already announced he is going back to Cal next year

This is where I'm at with it. I'm not going to judge him off his freshman year, in an offense that doesn't set QBs up to succeed. That offense doesn't do QBs any favors and makes it difficult on a lot of QBs, but especially a true freshman.
I think Underwood will be a good and maybe great QB by the time he leaves college given that he works with a better offense and QB developer. That said, I'd rather not spend the money it's going to take to get him.
We have a head coach now that's known for putting QBs in great position to succeed. I think we can find someone with a much lesser price tag and have him be just as successful as someone who is ultra talented like Underwood.

I know, I was at LSU during that time (84-88)
Just having some fun.

I really hope Chambliss can get another year. He's a top 5 QB right now.

yep. When you see these threads remember LSU fans do not know anything about QB play.
Yes, Underwood is a take 100% of the time.

I mean he's making $3 million per year right now. And we are definitely spending more than $12 million. Any high level transfer QB is likely going to command north of $2 million.

Underwood might turn out good, but next yr will still be a huge work in progress season for him. It'll be like a true freshman QB starting in the SEC.
Lane Kiffin is in win now mode.

It’s really wild to think back on that situation now knowing how nice/humble of a guy JD turned out to be. That place must have been truly toxic.

Another? Underwood certainly didn't.
The hesitation with Underwood, other than the fact that he has not declared his intent to enter the portal, to my knowledge, is the perceived price tag.
Kiffin knows what he wants and what he is willing to pay; until he gives me reason to think otherwise, I will trust his judgment.
