Ge hasn't won anything. He has historically been very meh. Worse than BK. Why do people keep hiring him? Why does anyone want to work with him?

His best trait, is taking over absolute shite shows, and getting them back in line in short order.

He did it at Temple. He did it at Baylor in a big way, after a near death penalty, and he has at least taken Nebraska to their best heights since Pellini.

He failed in Carolina, but I think most people understood he was a college guy, through and through.

He’s a good coach, however he seems to always hit a wall eventually. He’s done it at Nebraska now. I don’t agree he’s been meh, but I do agree he gets more hype than he’s worth.

He’s a decent coach but nothing special. He will get fired at Nebraska eventually because they expect to compete with the big boys in their conference and that’ll never happen with Matt Rhule.

Which brings up an interesting conversation. Why in the new NIL and transfer portal era can Nebraska not contend for championships like the Indiana’s of the world?

“He’s done that at Nebraska” not entirely true. Mike Riley went 9-4 in 2016. 19-19 overall. I think Rhule is currently 19-18

They can but they don’t have the right coach right now. Nebraska is also just a hard job. They have to compete with so many powers in the region. Theyre like Ole Miss to LSU Bama and Georgia. They have NIL resources it’s just hard to recruit there going against so many other regional powers. It takes a really smart coach who knows how to evaluate talent to succeed there. Look what happens to Ole Miss now that Lane is gone. Also when Mississippi State lost Dan Mullen they’ve never been the same. Elite coaches are needed to elevate those types of programs. Matt Rhule is not.

The AD Dannen (former Tulane AD) just signed him to a big, big extension. He becomes the highest paid coach in the country if Nebraska makes the playoffs four times (I believe). They won't make it once.

I think it’s fair to say he has worked in places where it’s not easy to win

I mean sure Nebraska used to be the gold standard in the 80s and 90s

But that was four decades ago

Nebraska doesn’t have football talent

Nobody wants to move there and play football when they have so many other options

Expect the wall to remain intact in 2026; they play Ohio St., Indiana, and Oregon

Walks around on the sideline with his mouth agape, looking like a really old man.

Technically yeah. But its still a .500 program that doesnt beat anybody worth a shite.

At least has his other programs he was winning more games and still beating good opponents.

They had all their major opponents at home and avoided Oregon, OSU, and Indiana (USC, Michigan, and Iowa). shite they even got PSU the year they fired Franklin and lost to everybody.

Next year they have OSU, Washington, Indiana, @Iowa, @Oregon, @Illinois

They might have an even worse record next year

lol

Rhule's last 5 years as a collegiate head coach:

Nebraska 7-5
Nebraska 7-6
Nebraska 5-7
Baylor 11-3
Baylor 7-6
37-27 Win percentage: .578%

Kiffin's last 5: (against superior competition)
Ole Miss 11-1
Ole Miss 10-3
Ole Miss 11-2
Ole Miss 8-5
Ole Miss 10-3
44-18 Win percentage: .710%

Overall:
Rhule in 10 seasons of CFB is 66-61 (.520%)
Kiffin in 14 seasons of CFB is 117-53 (.688%)

Rhule is a really good program builder, but he'll never get you there. Kiffin is a consistent winner, and one of the best offensive minds in football.

The secret sauce for Nebraska back in the day was their walk-on program. They'd take those big, hulking farm kids who had been tossing hay bales all their lives, put them in the weight room, and two years later they would come out as massive linemen. I was on the field with Tiger Band watching them warm up on the field before one of our bowl games against them. Compared to their linemen, ours looked like they were in middle school. ??. They just ran over everybody in those days.

2016 (Miles was coaching at LSU), was the last time they went to a bowl game. Now they have gone back to back.
