If you want good charbroiled oysters at a nice restaurant, where are you going?

Wife wants somewhere we can get oysters for our anniversary dinner.

Preferably outside of New Orleans. We are in Alexandria and will travel for better food, day trip or likely overnight. Thinking Lafayette, Natchitoches, Natchez, or Baton Rouge.

Thanks!

These are the best in BR along with their sister restaurant French Market Bistro.

Obviously Drago's has good chargrilled oysters as well.

If you like a variety of flavors and toppings consider Mike Andersons (pricey but casual) or The Southern Pearl Oyster House.

They don't have chargrilled oysters but if you're looking for small town "destination" Cajun Cuisine, I would also recommend The Grapevine in Donaldsonville, Houmas House in Darrow, and Robertos in St Gabriel.

Cafe Josephine in Sunset is a good spot. Great Oysters and Steak.

French Market Bistro on Highland. Oh and do yourself a favor and add the lump crab meat!

Natchitoches has places with oysters that are great, I wouldn't call them anniversary worthy. Especially if you can go to French Market Bistro in BR.

I can say that Parrain’s in Baton Rouge are no longer worth it. They switched from a grill to some sort of broiler system. Not good anymore.

Mansur’s are the best in BR and my favorite of anywhere I’ve had.

Mike Anderson’s are often good, but they are a bit inconsistent.

Does Metairie count?
If the only goal is to get the best charbroiled oysters, Drago’s has the best.
There are better restaurants around, but no better charbroiled oysters.

The roasted oysters at Vestal in Lafayette are probably my favorite, especially if looking for a place for a nice anniversary dinner. They're different from any of the oysters from a place like Uncle Ts or Dragos, etc. They typically also have a wide selection for raw oysters from various regions. Book a seat at the counter facing the kitchen, get the crab cake too.

I love grilled oysters. One of the great culinary expressions of my time.

Personally, I would not seek oysters on the half shell(cooked or raw) anywhere north of I-10 on the Gulf Coast…

I have to agree with you, particularly for an anniversary. I was there this past weekend only for cocktails in prep for Kingsway across the street which was awesome. Did not get the oysters this time around.

I’m only eating cooked. If they tell me when and where they are getting them, I will. T Johnnys got theirs in last night. But to each his own
