I never knew this till I saw the ESPN article about Kiffin.

However, Muschamp was told by UF officials that the SEC office wouldn't allow him to bring in Kiffin, according to two people familiar with the situation, and Alabama's Nick Saban hired Kiffin a couple of weeks later.

I bet Muschamp blew his stack when he heard Saban hired Kiffin. That may have been a different path for Muschamp had he gotten Kiffin. Kiffin wouldn't be with LSU right now had that happened because his career wouldn't have had the same rehab affect.

I personally like Muschamp. Fun years when he was on staff.

This surprises no one. SEC/Bama/Saban bias was extremely real for many years.

The way I interpret it though is that the UF officials made that up and lied to Muschamp because they didn’t want Kiffin associated with the program.

At least that wouldn’t surprise me at all.

No way Muschamp and Kiffin would have got along . This sounds like BS . Muschamp would never have let Kiffin run the offense .

Sounds like a very Florida thing to do. Head Coach wants to bring in a difference maker on offense to fix problems, administration sabotages it, then fires the Head Coach who tried to fix the problems . Then they wonder why someone like Kiffin chooses not to go there.....His comment about Verge telling him he's going to get him what he needs, stay out of the way, and let him coach was pretty telling of what he was hearing from other schools.

I think that’s about when Grier got suspended and left for Wvu..?
Lane and Will Grier would’ve been a helluva tandem

Same when he was at Auburn. He always brought a fearless and physical defense.

Quite possible that’s what was meant and that Florida lied about that to Muschamp. And if it was any other school involved, then, yeah, it definitely would have gone down that way.

But it should surprise no one if the league office did tell Florida they couldn’t hire Kiffin and then allowed Alabama to do so. There are rules for Alabama and then there are rules for the rest of the SEC.

And they had Lamar Jackson committed too.

I get so much joy seeing Florida screw itself over.

Can someone explain this

Unless there was some sort of show cause stipulation, how does the SEC office have any say here??

Sounds like BS. Because if true, i can’t imagine Florida just letting it slide that a few weeks later Bama was allowed to hire Kiffin

The implication is that Florida lied to Muschamp

Seriously? OMG, imagine Lane and Lamar at UF and Muschamp running the D. That couldve elevated Muschamp big time. I think he need to get a handle on his anger but that would've changed his career had this happened.

The SEC doesn’t let him but two weeks later Saban hires him for Alabama?
What kind of BS is that?
Not that I am one bit surprised by it.

I wonder if all of the outbursts on the sideline took a toll on his mental and cardiovascular health.
