There are so many more experiences in life or good causes, why would you dump your money into paying a coach or player? I love CFB, but Ill love it on another's dime. The whole athletic donor concept is a bit sad. Or at least, out of control.

Because you have more money than you know what to do with so you give some to something you really really enjoy? Not that complex really. People spend whatever discretionary income on stuff they like to do and be around regardless of how much they make.

For the billionaires, that’s like asking a normal person why do they buy a coffee.

They do all of that too

i somehow think contributing for buildings and facilities feels a bit better. Buildings are structure. long lasting. Lasting impacts. Put your name on a building or some shite.

the new age of throwing millions to emotional teenagers that may or may not produce, may or may not stay past each 1 yr increment, may or may not be a dirt bag off the field... making kids feel entitled etc is just all a dirty feeling.

on top of that schools had already reached a point of having to pay coaches past their ordinary means and having to supplement with unusual donor contributions etc. Again, just goes straight to the pocket of an individual that doesn't always guarantee success again. May or may not turn out to be a dirt bag etc.

its gotten quite ridiculous.

That's not always the case. With the NIL collectives and other mechanisms, your average Joe can donate his hard-earned money to millionaires.

I agree that it is sad. I will buy my season tickets, send my kids to school there, spend money at the concession stand, etc.

But straight-up donating cash to NIL or to coaches? That I will not do.

Yep and if I ever become a billionaire, y'all better watch out. Arkansas finna eat. Except I'll be smart enough to pay the refs off first. Can get them cheaper than players, but have a huge impact.

These Mega donors pull the strings, they get a voice in how the program is run and get access to the program that only large money can buy.

When you see guys like James Franklin and Brian Kelly get canned mid season, it’s because the donors who fund the program said so. They’re basically who the AD works for.

Man I would do way stupider shite than that

I have always told everyone if I became a billionaire I would publicly offer the Alabama Athletic Department 1 billion dollars but they have to rename their stadium “LSUs Bitch”. I mean 1 billion would set them up for life

Then I realized thoughts like this are 1 of thousands of reasons I’ll never be a billionaire

And you don’t have to do that! It’s your money you spent it how you see fit and that’s awesome for you.

They really like their alma maters, want to see them succeed, and have the means to help make it happen.

And there's nothing stopping them from also using their money on those "good" causes. It's not an either/or thing, they're multi-millionaires.

Agreed. I was just answering the poster who said only ultra rich people were donating, which is not the case.

That is true & a good point. Ben Bordelon got to be on the coaching search committee for LSU (although that’s probably pretty boring when you only have 1 candidate)

As much as I love college football, I couldn't do it. Chipping in for a new stadium or endowing a scholarship fund...sure. But paying a ridiculous buyout for a coach who didn't win enough or some Primadonna NIL deal - no way.

The idea that there are kids out there suffering from terrible diseases that need treatment, family support or research grants would make me sick to my stomach. Even if you DO donate to worthy causes, donating it to something this ridiculous is just obscene.

You have to get out of the mindset that everybody thinks like you. It’s not for you, fine.

I donate about 20 bucks a month plus my season tickets

Not enough to bother me or enough to get a phone call for advice on who to hire
