"There was only one problem: the first conversation between Kiffin and Florida AD Scott Stricklin did not go well, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. At the time, Florida was the biggest job available and had the perceived leverage to dictate some of its terms. That included wanting a general manager with an NFL background who wouldn't report directly to Kiffin. This was a non-starter for Kiffin, who strongly believes in the abilities of Ole Miss general manager Billy Glasscock, and it got the pursuit off to an awkward start."

I've followed the UF search and it's not pretty. The poor way the Fla admin handled this really makes me appreciate how well our guys handled it.

I would never have guessed this with the Clown and Circus start we got to everything.

Florida sucks and they are acting like they dodged a bullet by not getting Kiffin. They live in fantasy land.

Probably not the best move to give YOUR terms to a guy that you need and doesn’t need you

Florida needed Kiffin way worse than Kiffin needed Florida. Ridiculous move by UF.

I do wonder where we would have turned had Kiffin stayed at Ole Miss.

I remember laughing at Alabama flailing around after Rodriguez turned them down. Then they set up camp and waited patiently for Saban to accept. When it finally happened I remember thinking how brave they were to stay focused on the right guy.

Verge and the group seems to have taken a page from that playbook.

Imagine being Stricklin and getting outmaneuvered by an AD making his first hire

This story convinces me that if Woodward would have survived as AD he would have never even pursued Kiffin. In his mind it had to a "splash" yet proven hire that he could keep under his thumb. Im guessing it would have been Franklin.

Stricklin keeping Billy last year still paying dividends. That alone should get him fired. Lane would definitely be a Gator if Stricklin makes that move. And with this years Florida defense they would probably be n the playoffs.

You know what's even more hilarious about this? I heard Finebum the other day make a strong point why would he not stay at Ole Miss with total control when LSU will definitely not give him total control over their program. That's hilarious considering what LSU is doing right now with Kiffin and just letting him bring anyone he wants in.

This is what I was telling these Florida fans the whole time I said they still had Scott Strickland as there AD and it’s unbelievable they are still letting him hire football coaches!

That's a given. I fully expect that a booster reached out to Kiffin and Kiffin told him not interested unless and until Woodward is gone. Or maybe his camp let Verge know that. Who then let Landry and the incoming President know. Either way, it played a part in Woodward's ousting.
