Any OTers had surgery for an enlarged prostate?

Dad went this morning for his cystoscopy and he has an enlarged prostate. At this point it’s too large to be treated with just medication. Thankfully, non-cancerous. Just curious if anyone has had the surgery, how it went, etc?

Have it done in Miami or Orlando where all the best physicians in that area of practice reside.

I had an enlarged prostrate removed robotiacally.
Operation went longer than expected and since I’d never been put under before had an extended hospital stay.
I was in my early 60’s when I had the operation and it took a long time until I was fully recovered.

FIL had the aqua ablation done in June. Had to have a catheter for a week and drink plenty of water to pass clots. Removed the catheter and he pees like a fire hose now. I think he’s off or will be off his BPH meds soon.

I had laser prostate surgery a couple of years ago. Fairly pain free and simple procedure as an out-patient. They put you to sleep and you really don't feel anything. They did install a catheter that stayed in for 24 hours. The worst part about that is the tube was too long and a pain to place in the right position when sleeping or moving around. I didn't need any pain medication after the surgery.
After removal of the catheter I had a stinging sensation first couple of urine times
I put the surgery off a few times thinking it would be painful but it was pain free. Worst part was the stinging sensation.
Glad I had the surgery done. My urine flow is much better and can empty bladder now when I go.

A friend of mine had this surgery a week ago. So far, so good.

Don’t take this the wrong way- but id think the worst part would be having a long freaking tube stuck up into your junk …. As a guy who’s never had that done, man the idea of a catheter freaks me out .. would it be possible for them to use one of those condom catheters instead, so that there’s no actual insertion ?

I had a Urolift done a few years ago and DO NOT recommend the procedure.

BIL is recovering now from removal. It was brutal for him

my dad is in his 70's and had it. there was some complication during the surgery and he had to go back a few days later for bleeding. it took about 6-8 months but it has improved his quality of life.

No it has to be inserted to help drain.
And as horrific as it sounds. It's not nearly that bad.

I’m sure I’ll have to at some point since prostate cancer runs in my dad’s side of family.
