Someone in another thread brought up Mullen, and that would be a home run given the circumstances.

I hadn’t even thought of him.

Fire him and pay him a buyout?

Maybe the Double Eagle bros have Maguire locked in at Texas Tech, but that's who I expected to generate more buzz this cycle.

Mullen would be a step backwards from LK, but probably the best they could do at this point

No reason to pay him $35-$40M if he’s leaving anyways. I hate that we’re late to the party, but I’d rather be late to the party than have to shell out $40M for a guy who doesn’t wanna be here

If OM fired LK, they’d owe him around $30M. Not an option.

Would they not consider promoting Golding?

How does his buyout read? Is it offset by his new salary at LSU?

Fire him and pay him $30million for another week to find someone? No. UM did the right thing IMO. They did everything they could to keep him and are cutting the wheels off him now to move forward. I think the calendar for recruiting fricked over all entities here.

They didn’t have the money. His buyout was/is substantial

They will get Golding and pretend like they like it

Given the circumstances I think it would be a home run.

ETA: I don’t think Mullen would do it because he and State parted in good terms. He does seem like a decent guy. Still though, Ole Miss would be foolish to not at least make the call.

Seems a bit naive. TTU is no destination job. He will move on if he sustains success.
