Movie Theatre Previews Complaint

Haven't been to a theatre in a while, took kids and friends to see Zootopia 2. Movie "starts" at 2:55pm. Preview and preview after preview. Movie didn't start until 3:22. Almost 30 minutes of that green screen bullshite. They just keep getting longer and longer.
I remember when they used to be 4 or 5 short previews before the movie started, now its almost half an hour of it?

AMC now says movie starts 20-30 minutes after posted time. It’s insane

What I like about Fathom classic movies. No preview.

It's been 20 minutes or more of previews since 2005 or so, nothing new
The main aggravation is the AMC specific ads

When I was a kid there were usually 2 previews. I saw it grow to 3, then 4, then 5.
It's now 5-6 plus various ads.

It's been like that for a while. Back when I had movie pass I had it timed to where I could get to my seat during the last preview

I usually go and pee during the 2nd or 3rd trailer

If I bring my kids to the movies, we shoot to get there 15 mins after the showtime. This gives us 15 mins to get concessions, check in, find our seats, use bathroom if needed, and watch a couple previews

I dont mind too much. At Cinemark they replay a preview as an ad and that is aggravating.

I always looked forward to the trailers, but the commercials are bullshite. Haven't been to a theater in over a year, and that was to see Blazing Saddles.

Starting time + 15 minutes used to be my standard for when the movie actually starts. 5 trailers, on average, plus a couple of dopey clips about being silent, reminding everyone there's a concession bar to get snacks, and of course, tossing your trash when the movie's over.
Weird that they'd keep tacking on more and more previews, when that only extends the run time & turn around, making it fewer times a movie can be seen during the day.
But I'm sure these geniuses know what they're doing.

What's really crazy is that yiu used to have one or two trailers that were attached to the main attraction, no matter what theater chain you went to, if you saw movie X you saw trailers Y and Z.
Now the theater chains have their own trailer reels that they show before loading the feature, and then the feature has its own trailers (still).

At least now a lot of theaters have reserved seating. Buy your ticket online, get a good seat, and aim to be in the theater about 20 minutes “late.”

took kids and friends
I took my family of four about six months or so and with popcorn and drinks and maybe one candy I think it was $150. I was like, uh, what?

I haven't too often lately, but I have had a few times arriving five minutes after start time and the movie itself was already started. Not anymore. Get there five minutes in and you see the dancing cartoon popcorn box telling you not to text during movies.

Honestly, they probably get paid more for ads than they do movie tickets.

That's gotta be it. Ticket plus overpriced drink and popcorn (my usual) vs ad revenue. Which they get regardless if anyone is in the theater or not.

Yep. And ticket prices are split between theater, production company, etc.etc... ad money is strictly going to AMC, or to Regal, or Cinamark... They sign those ad contracts and keep all the money for that.
