I think I’m too much of a pussy to be comfortable with driving mountain roads and parking in steep drive ways to ever live in the mountains

I get it’s a skill and you get used to it. But even the slightest drop in concentration and you’re fricked.

I was staying at a cabin over Thanksgiving that was 400 feet up a winding 1 lane sometimes dirt road with a steep drop off at all times. When I got there it was pitch black. And sometimes places the asphalt was fallen away. My arse was clenched the entire time. And sometimes the road was so steep I had to floor it a little bit to keep moving up.

Now as I said, I got better at it. But even then, there were a couple of times i felt like my car was leaning too much.

I can only imagine doing that in the rain. In the snow…I know my car couldn’t do it.

Doing that on a daily basis over years. All the more respect to mountain people.

People are going to give you shite, but I hear you. I don’t mind a-hole clenching trails, but doing that shite in a car with other cars hurtling the other direction is never not unpleasant for me.

What always baffled me was being in Colorado, on these winding mountain interstates, and the speed limit is 75 and people are blowing past.

Not even straightaways but hard curves. Wild

Man i lived in AK for a year and to be honest never got the hang of it. I feel like i romanticized living there but the novelty wore off pretty fast. Its a fricking giant inconvenience. So many terrifying driving encounters.

We aren’t comfortable and I think that’s the point.

Stay hard: live forever.

There are times I found myself going faster than I should have. There are times where I felt like a strong wind would come along and knock me 50 feet off a cliff.

There was one road that was super steep. I consider it character growth that three times I came across this road and the third time I finally drove down it rather than driving down an additional block.

I was going to do that if anyone wanted to drive other than me on any of our trips into town.

Sure, you can drive the normal roads. But you’re not driving me down this deathtrap of a hill.

The parking situation was also scary. Cars were parked on a 15 foot cliff and not really turn around room till down the road a bit
