Absolutely terrible. The re-telling has no heart, VERY inconsistent attempts at referencing the original Wizard of Oz film, too may musical scores that do not advance the story, and a bad timeline (also inconsistent with the original film).

I liked part 1 better
I didn’t know the story and had no clue how it ended
I saw it Tuesday at 1pm. And I have to say the theater was like 70% full. I haven’t been in a theater that crowded since before Covid for sure
I thought “maybe the theater isn’t dead just yet after all”

I can’t get over the witch being black. It just oozes woke. Nothing against her it’s just that the producers had to have a specific race to fill the spot.

Are you seriously complaining that the actress playing a GREEN skinned witch is black in real life?

I'll take "Things I expect to see on the M/TV Board" for 1000 Ken.

I really hope this is a troll attempt.

But she's playing a green person.

These movies have to be setting the record for product tie ins

I assume this was a troll attempt, and a very good one based on the number of replies. Haha

I just couldn’t pay attention in the first one. It was so stupid. I have no desire to see the second one. And the cultish weird shite going on with the 2 leads makes it even weirder

I would never watch the movies, not my cup of tea. These two have such a creepy vibe together. I don't know which one of these anorexics is the abductor and which is the abductee. There are rumors that black Nosferatu is in talks to play Storm in the next Marvel X-Men thing. To that, I say oh, hell nah.

Not a problem, can’t stand a bug eyed Dorothy.

Saw Wicked 2 years ago at the Saenger. The actresses in the play did such a better job than the movies. Loved the play. Hated the movie version.

If you've read the book all this shite is based on, it tracks. Nothing but poorly veiled sexual innuendo all over that thing.
Don't ask. Was trying to impress someone when it came out.

Are you saying he should continue to just "ease on down the road?"

Made for the theater kids who love this stuff.
Don’t care.
Don’t care.

The film itself made the character more central than the books ever did and Margaret Hamilton's iconic performance made the character part of the ongoing American zeitgeist.
Out of the 3,000+ pages of the Baum books, the Wicked Witch of the West appears in less than 40 pages (being killed off halfway through the very first book).
Wicked is a re-imagining of the character as being misunderstood, the author has stated numerous times that Elphaba was never meant to be an allegory for any group, but that the story was meant to be about media and popular propaganda.
The LGTBQ crowd adopted it and have basically made Elphaba into their allegory. Now, with the black woman playing Elphaba, both the "woke" and the "non-woke" crowds are pushing to expand that allegory to being black as well.
I've seen the play on Broadway and it was... nice. Great sets, great singing, but the stage presentation really beats you over the head with "diversity is our strength". The movies drive that narrative as the core message.
