Old Times Are Not Forgotten in Parts of Dixie

Doing some research in the newspaper archives today and came across this little window into how people thought back in the early 1900's. Check out Mississippi newspapers reacted when President Teddy Roosevelt socialized with blacks. Conniption was not the word. You'll have to blow it up but the print is readable. Hell, some even advocated independence. Some dreams just don't die I guess.

The subject makes it sound like this happened in Mississippi just last week. Ha!
17 years after this article was written, the last of the Witchcraft Trials were being held for Gods sake.
In the same paper they’re advertising a white cream as a remedy for worms.
I’m more shocked at that honestly.

Damn.
So there was no segregation in the Northern States in 1901?
All schools were mixed?
No Jim Crow Railcars?
No housing segregation?
No employment discrimination?
Propaganda at it's finest.

I mean, look at all our major cities.

And history shows just how prophetic they were too...
They knew the chit storm the was coming.

Mississippi schools weren't all integrated until 2017. Had i not had a college roommate/teammate from Cleveland, i would've never known/followed that story.
