Universities, school districts nationwide call for 'decolonizing' Thanksgiving: 'Day of mourning'

As families across the U.S. gather on Thanksgiving to celebrate one of the nation’s most cherished national holidays, some educators and schools are lamenting the day, pushing back on its "colonial" roots, and incorporating diversity, equality and inclusion DEI into the holiday.

At the University of California, Davis, the California History-Social Science Project, which describes itself as "Resources & professional learning for K-12 history-social science," hosted a Zoom event called "Decolonizing Thanksgiving in the Classroom."

"We will discuss reframing classroom practices and rituals about Thanksgiving," the event description explained. "Centering perspectives from Turtle Island (a name for North America used by some indigenous people) will help us decolonize Thanksgiving and spark new conversations about how to authentically make meaning of this holiday with our students."

Earlier this month, Washington University in St. Louis, an institution that has long been criticized over its DEI policies, put out a press release promoting an event that "highlights and honors the way different cultures recognize and understand Thanksgiving, both as part of their history and as a tradition brought into the present day."

This Thanksgiving tradition has worked (with no complaints) for a couple hundred years and now someone that knows better than us wants to change everything around.

They are incapable of being happy and want to make everyone as miserable as they are.

I don't understand how someone could take an actual historically accurate moment of unity and turn it into something bad, but here we are.

Like the whole purpose of the holiday was the moment of unity between settlers and natives, regardless of the other things that either side may have done at some point.

Everyone of these liberals have the ability to start to make up for their sins. But instead they do nothing to right their wrongs. What good is admitting you are wrong if you do not do something about it.

Why haven't they given all of their money to the Indians yet? Stop talking and do something about it. Until you sacrifice for your misdeeds I refuse to believe you are truly repentant.

Go back to Europe or you are complicit.

Changing history is the Marxist way.
The meaning is right in front of us all. New settlers made friends of a native tribe. Times got hard and the tribe helped the settlers. They were thankful for the help.
Lesson
Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Always be thankful for friends and family.

The first slaughters involved in colonial life were Indians slaughtering white colonists. It's well-documented and I'm sick of listening to the 'white aggressor' narrative.

Don't start none, won't be none.

I have an extreme dislike for people who won't acknowledge the blessings that they received because hard men made hard decisions in the past. Because of that, your soft arse benefits. I wish there was some way those ungrateful fricks could FAFO.

It may be about time to start razing so-called institutions of higher learning to the ground.

Considering how Chinese students (not Chinese American students) are colonizing MIT... this should be interesting.

There were 1023 Chinese students at MIT in the 2023-2024 academic year, making it the largest single nationality in the international student body.

or maybe they could talk about how the whole "thanks giving story" was created out of thin air by the tyrant devil abe in an attempt create a sense of national unity to bolster public support for his war of northern aggression!

every body knew that the first european settlement in in america was st. Augustin fl.in 1565 predating plymouth by 55 years.

I was holding out until tomorrow, but I see no reason why it can’t be shared both days.
