I’m having a pool and outdoor kitchen added at my house and am looking for sound advice. I love the ease of Sonos and the fact that I can have a soundbar under my TV and two speakers and control them all from my phone. I’m looking for something similarly easy to use that lets me control different zones, but outdoor rated. Any recommendations?

My initial thought was a Sonos Arc soundbar and 2 Era speakers, but even though they’ll be under cover it looks like they could still have issues from the humidity and heat.

I've got a sonos beam on my outdoor TV. It's been out there three years now and still doing fine. In heavy summer rains/hurricanes there's been moisture on top several times. The beam might be the way to go since the top is solid plastic and keeps water out.

If you'd rather get outdoor rated but incorporate it with your sonos stuff, just buy an amp. When we moved in to our house the previous owner had some whole house system that you needed a PhD to use, and we just bought amps and converted it and it works great.

Sonos amp is pretty easy to use. I run 4 speakers with it set to "mono" and use the L/R fader to swap between "zones". The amp is hooked up to the tv via HDMI eARC so sound goes through the speakers, or I can airplay music straight to the amp/speakers. An amp lets you pick whatever outdoor rated speakers you want, and the amp can be placed inside the house.

Thanks for the rec. I hadn’t researched the amp but it may be a good solution.

Sonance with Sonos

Its not going to let you control each speaker of the set up, but will act as its own zone

I have 3 of the sonos moves. I love them. I have two of them mounted up high on a wall and one stays on a table. I like the portability of the move if needed. I can just grab one and use it as a bluetooth for vacations.

I was going to do the amp like said by someone else, but the way my house is laid out it was easier to get power to a wireless speaker than get speaker wire from a central amp to all the speakers. If I were doing a new construction I would go the amp route.

Either way you go sonos is the right answer. The app (although not as good anymore) is awesome. It's worth the price.

I went Sonos throughout and for the patio to keep it all controllable on one app. You can connect everything, or just play certain zones. I have the sonos era in the kitchen that can connect to the living room, or play on its on. A couple of these would work well for the patio also.

The amp is required for each TV. The sonos era can connect to any of your amps.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I guess I’m leaning back to Sonos. Maybe they’ll be 1/2 off for Black Friday

I have a three zone Yamaha Aventage receiver located at my TV that can stream internet radio, spotify or whatever you want, and it is controlled by my phone. I have the primary zone as the room with the TV in a 7.1 configuration. Zone 2 is the pool with Klipsch outdoor speakers, and the third zone is the game room. Each zone is separately controllable and I can turn on all zones for gatherings. Works great. My speakers are all wired, including the outdoor speakers, but you can add bluetooth speakers if you want. I prefer wired.

It's easy.

I run all Sonos. Sound bar and sub, 2 amps with 3 ceiling speakers inside and 3 outside plus a couple Roams I can sprinkle around as needed. Works amazing.

ETA. Wanted to add some more color to this. I tormented myself for months looking for something to replace the el cheapo amazon ceiling speakers and receiver that the previous owner had installed to go with a few year old Bose soundbar. You can check my thread history for a few posts I made about it. I also consulted my buddy that owns a home theatre company that does all the work for pro athletes and rich people in Nola. So I had the hookup for equipment at cost. And I’m still glad I went Sonos, even though he makes fun of me for it. The synchronization is spot on.
