From what I hear, she isn't bad despite her grandma looks.
That being said, this is an extremely ignorant take on her part.

Aren't traffic crimes civil crimes unless you kill or badly hurt someone? So no more speeding tickets? No more ticketing people for expired tags or registrtoin or being without a license plate? No more closing down a bar due to a fire hazard because of overcrowding?
WTF?
WTF?

I know that cops aren't lawyers but I thought they had to know some basics.

I kind of agree.
Why stick local PDs with millions or billions in expense when jail space is at a premium, when its the federal govt job to keep them out?

Simple math would tell you that most cities dont have the space to hold illegals.

Meh it's helping pay for the new county jail here.

The NOPD has their hands full with the locals, oh, and here comes the lovely Southern/Grambling game. So, I can kind of see why they can't worry about illegals, but why say it at a press conference?

If we assume what you say is correct then what do you propose

The point is that you can’t cherry-pick what you want to call “civil.” It is a criminal statute, and she is basically saying that her department won’t be involved in enforcing the law.
