Lying arse media - Plane crash in the lake and sensationalism

Flight tracking data from FlightAware showed the plane flying out from the Gulfport airport just after 5:40 p.m. Minutes later, the plane started descending quickly over land, dropping 2,200 feet in about 10 minutes.
Headline "2,200 feet in 10 minutes" on NOLA.com and some other sites.
I thought to myself that doesn't seem so fast. Two minutes on Google and a call to a pilot buddy confirmed that normal descent rate in a Cessna is 500 feet A MINUTE. So 2,200 in 10 minutes is normal / slow.
The media cares not if they are deceiving you. The OT remains my primary source of fairly unbiased local news.

So, what are we supposed to melt about?

This was probably written by some 22 year old chick being paid $12/article

It’s nautical minutes when you’re dealing with aviation.

It's actually in the headline as if it was plummeting to the earth. 2,220 feet in 10 minute is 222 feet per minute - a very gentle descent.

Reading a news article about a subject you are very familiar with such as your job is always a laugh. They get so much wrong most of the time.

You still have to account for the time change.

You see? THIS is the commentary I come to the OT for.
The downvoters can go to hell with Ole Miss.

It's called lazy journalism. No one holds them accountable.

Modern competency crisis.
Everything is unprofessional now.

And the rotation of the sun. That’s faster than you think.

Might not be anyone there to hold them accountable. Staffs have been severely cut back and deadlines are immediate, not daily.

Did they cross any time zones upon descent? That, along with time change and nautical minutes will really screw up the calcs.
