We had a shite tier news outlet accidentally click post on a "Lane Kiffin hired by LSU" article.
So either it was a "just in case" article, or they were told to take that shite down immediately.

Yes. LSU Reveille, a student newspaper, reported & posted an article that LSU already hired Lane Kiffin & then removed the article so that pretty much confirms it
