Who is everyone using? Are you going the DIY route or the traditional company route? I am in the Lafayette area if that matters. Thanks.

I did Alarm Grid. The local folks are probably using a similar service and are just marking up the price.

It's not like XYZ Alarm has a call center

If you're in the Baton Rouge area, stay far away from Certified Alarms.

Its Lafayette, as long as you are not in 70501, save your money

Personally I'd go unmonitored. Get a system you can set up yourself with a loud alarm and security cameras. Monitored sounds nice, but they're low priority calls for police officers due to so many false alarms. By the time they get there, they're just figuring out what you say was stolen. You actually collect evidence with a camera system, and very few criminals will stick around with a loud siren going off after they set it off.

I installed Blink cameras on the exterior of my house and have an indoor Blink camera. They are relatively inexpensive and very easy to install. Search on Amazon to purchase.

I use SimpliSafe and have been satisfied so far. Easy to figure out what you need and install yourself. I have a range of sensors and cameras. I do have it monitored but really just for fire. I would like the fire department to know before the flames are shooting out of my roof and the neighbors notice.

if you're in Baton Rouge, i highly recommend Certified. I have had them for 15 years on my home/shop and about 10 at my rental. never a problem (except setting it on stay/instant when i leavce) and they have been great.

I don’t know if I trust myself enough to install it myself.

SimpliSafe is installed with command strips and your phone. They offer installation if you really need it.

I use Custom Security in Baton Rouge and it's great. No complaints.

DIY, always. It took me 15 minutes to install all of my door sensors. State regulations require that even Ring, Wyze, etc., have their local monitoring done by an entity licensed in the state. Only fools and women still pay outfits like Vivint, ADT, etc.

I have 10+1 of .45ACP home security on my hip, and 160 rounds of .223 and 7 rounds of 12ga ready to rock about 15 steps away.

I have Wyze home security, and I don't even arm that shite if I leave for the weekend (no you can't have my address). $2.99 a month without cameras (it's a rental, I can't be bothered to care.)

When I moved here, I got Capitol Security in 1997. I’m pretty sure I had them in Baton Rouge for a few years before I moved here.

At some point in the last 36 years, I guess the guys retired and sold out to Certified Alarm Systems.

I’ve never had a single issue with them that wasn’t resolved satisfactorily.

However, I would like to hear the issues that people have had with them just to be forewarned.

With modern systems there's really no reason for the monitored systems from places like Custom these days. There's plenty of newer systems that can immediately alert you on your phone of anything that happens. Now you may need to have some wiring done for most of them, but that's not that big of a cost in the long run.
