A handful of posters on here argue against my Christian Zionism by asserting that modern Jews of Israel are not related to the Jews of scripture.

It turns out this assertion is false. Ashkenazi DNA is overwhelming middle eastern.

LINK

quote:

1) Ashkenazi Jews, while having absorbed some ancestry from Europe due to a lengthy exile, have still retained the majority of their Israelite ancestry.

2) The paternal lineages are overwhelmingly Middle Eastern, being defined by haplogroups J and E1b being predominant, but also the minor presences of R1b, G, and R1a.

3) When we compared the paternal lineages of Ashkenazim with European host populations and other Middle Eastern populations, the Ashkenazi profile was virtually indistinguishable from the Middle Eastern ones yet completely different from the European ones.

4) Many paternal lineages in Ashkenazim that might look European on the surface are actually Middle Eastern.

5) The maternal lineages in Ashkenazi Jews, while showing a general affinity to European lineages, still show some retention from the Middle East.

6) Other genetic studies (autosomal admixture and proximity) show the Ashkenazi gene pool is roughly 60% Middle Eastern overall, and a genetic closeness to other Jewish populations is clearly observable, along with an adjacency and partial overlap with non-Jewish Levantine populations.

7) Commercial DNA testing such as at AncestryDNA or 23andme can mislead the public into thinking Ashkenazi Jews are genetically European due to the wording and scheming of commercial tests. Thankfully, the companies provide additional information to correct misunderstandings, but it is best they adjusted their presentation.

8) The theory that Jews are significantly (or entirely) descended from the Khazars has been long-debunked.

9) The nature of Ashkenazi Jewish genetic mixture is in many ways comparable to other populations, such as Roma, Mestizos, Metis, or African Americans.

10) Multiple examples presented show how antisemites weaponize public unawareness of DNA to lie and mislead the public about the origins of Ashkenazi Jews, and use double standards to invalidate their identity as a Middle Eastern People.

Regardless of the exact proportions of European vs Middle Eastern DNA they may possess, Ashkenazi Jews are a diaspora population with beginnings in the Middle East, and their identity as a Middle Eastern group is as valid as any other.

Ashkenazi Jews have scientifically confirmed genetic links to the land of Israel and claims otherwise constitute a dishonest and antisemitic attempt to delegitimize the state of Israel and the Jewish claim to the land.

Old world drama.

America should be completely free to chart a new course for itself/humanity, not beholden to the whims of "magic people" from thousands of years ago.

No, I’m a Catholic. The one true Christian faith founded by Christ himself.

You are a heretic.

It's pretty established that Jews are from the region. I don't think anyone can argue that, in fact, a Jew wrote the Koran and most of the Bible...

Look, fam. All you have to say is that the USA must fight for Israel to the last dollar because the Bible says so. That's good enough for most Believers here in the USA.

Copy/pasted random comment from a Facebook video I saw last night.

He's correct that the word "Jewish" never appears in the Bible; however, "Yahuda" does appear in the Bible which is often translated in to English as "Jewish".

Yahuda was used to describe the Southern Kingdom of Israel which consisted of the Tribe of Benjamin and Judah; while the Northern Kingdom consisted of the other 10 tribes. All 12 tribes are the sons of Jacob, the seed of Abraham.

The Bible describes the Northern Kingdom as "Israelite"; and this word is NEVER used towards the Southern Kingdom. Also, "Yahuda" is never used to describe the Northern Kingdom.

What he fails to mention, is that Both kingdoms were exiled and scattered on to the nations when Assyrians attacked the Northern Kingdom and the Babylonians attacked the Southern Kingdom, destroying Jerusalem.

But the Southern Kingdom-Benjamin & Judah-came back after their exile and they rebuilt the temple (when king Cyrus the great allowed them to return). Their return is discussed in detail in the Book of Nehemiah and Ezra.

When the South came back, they kept God's law and His commandments. At best, they are the direct descendants of the modern day Jewish People in the modern country of Israel BUT even this is considered very controversial since the Ashkenazi Jewish people were converts from northern Europe, not descendants of the Southern kingdom.

The Northern Kingdom NEVER came back to Jerusalem, they remained scattered and assimilated into the nations. God even said He had dto issue a certificate of divorce to the north because they "whored with the nations" (adultery), breaking the Abrahamic covenant.

These 10 lost tribes (the northern kingdom) was NEVER called Jewish nor Yahuda. They were only called "Israelite". This is the very reason why Yeshua (Jesus) had to come and die so that the Northern kingdom can reconcile back (re-marry) to God's Abrahamic Covenent, aka the marriage vow. When he said - "I only came for the lost sheep of Israel" in Matthew, He's referring to the lost Northern kingdom.

The modern geographical country of Israel is NOT the same as the Biblical name of Israel. Biblically, Israel is ANYONE, including the modern Jewish people, that join themselves back to God's Abrahamic covenant through Yeshua's death (because He clearly says He is the ONLY way to the father). Yeshua and HIs death provides us a way back in to God's Abrahamic covenant (marriage vow). Why death? Because God issued the certificate of divorce to the Northern kingdom, and the ONLY way for a divorced wife to get back to her husband is IF the husband dies according to God's own commandment in Deut24.

This is the ENTIRE purpose of the Gospel, the entire purpose of Yeshua (Jesus) coming as a man to die, and resurrect as God....so that we (anyone) can reconcile back to God's Abrahamic Covenent, nullifying God's certificate of divorce.

I very much think that the Remnant discussed in the New Testament will be of some people in modern day Israel.

But I still don’t want the US to send them any money, would like for them to stop indiscriminately killing Gaza children, and labeling every single criticism of Israel as antisemitism.

That is hardly the point.

Yes, modern Jews are descendants of the ancient Jews of Israel. However, Christianity is the fulfillment of ancient Judaism. Christ was the Jewish messiah foretold by Hebrew scriptures. He came, he did his thing, and established a New Covenant with the entire world. The Jews of the modern world follow the old covenant that was rendered obsolete by Christ.

Pretty much.

Jesus was supposed to fulfill the law. We are all "gods chosen people."

Read Jeremiah 31:31-34 and tell me how the new covenant is with the entire world . Then read it again in Hebrews 8:10 and revise your false statement.

When did Jews disperse? Were there always Jews remaining in the Holy Land? Let's say Israel, Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Syria? Was the Holy Land generally under Islamic after that religion was "founded"? When did Jews decide to live in peace or coexist with Christians? Because I'm currently in Bible study for Acts and the Jews very much disliked Christians except for those who converted. And they were persecuted. Is coexistence more of a 19th or 20th century thing?

We don't discuss these sorts of things in study as we stick to the teachings in Acts and don't wander much outside of that. But I'd still like to know. Though some of you scholars would know.

And Sephardic Jews even more so, with less historical interbreeding with the local populace.

The whole argument that "today's Jews are not the Jews of the Bible" is just silly.
