Saban definitely helped persuade Kiffin to LSU. The whole entire CGD crew was going on and on about ole miss and saban spoke the quite part out loud “LSU has won 3 national titles since 2003 and you can recruit at ole miss like you can at LSU”

While I agree.

Its not the same advantage it was before NIL. No one worth nil dollars will stick around to develop as a depth player.

You’re always one injury away from 3rd string.

We are the one that got away for Saban. His marriage turned out beautifully but he still misses that ex gf from college

Agreed. These kids want $$$ and they’re going to go to whoever offers the most of it.

Yea recruiting a bunch of primarily African American players to Oxford, MS- a place that was consistently cast in a negative racial light pre Kiffin is def not as easy regardless of $

In the same breath, he stated that OM/Lane have done strictly Portal and that’s not sustainable long term. At LSU, you have the HS recruiting advantage and just as much power in portal.

Slightly different. Deeper rosters will still be at the blue bloods. That’s one reason he’s coming here.

Rece Davis is a Bama fan.

Kirk Herbstreit is an Ohio State fan.

Desmond Howard is a Michigan fan.

What do they all have in common? They’re scare shitless of an LSU program run by Lane Kiffin.

Yep. Pretty easy to watch and listen to his thoughts and imagine him saying this to Kiffin.

Been seeing this sentiment a lot in threads here. Sure, I'm sure he has more of a positive than negative view for LSU, but I think other motivations (such as his long-term relationships with decision-makers on the LSU side like Verge and his and his wife's clear affinity for Lane personally and professionally) come into play as well.

If Saban honestly thinks the LSU job is a top job, I'd think he'd counsel his friend/protege to consider it and the advantages it offers as much (if not moreso) than any "love" he has for LSU as an institution. Sure he'd think similarly when advising Verge, as surely Saban thinks Lane will succeed here and, therefore, would give a personal thumbs up to LSU placing the program in his hands;

I think this unique synergy among Saban, Verge, Lane, Frank and others goes a long way to calming any anxieties on either side of this pending Kiffin-LSU relationship. This sort of "stamp of approval from someone we know and trust" in Saban is an especially a big deal given how LSU's experience with Kelly (a total stranger to those in BR) went down.

But truly, until you have some of these smaller schools start winning national titles, it doesn’t matter bc the majority of players still want to win natties plus have their NIL money.

Don’t think these kids have any idea about what happened 60-65 years ago? They don’t. And they don’t care. If Ole Miss pays the $5 more, they’ll go there.

Imagine having to reload a team EVERY YEAR out of the portal because recruiting out of high school sucks. That’s what Lane is dealing with at Ole Miss. That’s undoubtedly unsustainable and a big reason why the blue bloods may not win it every year, but why they will ALWAYS or should always be in the hunt. Whereas these smaller schools need to hit lightning in a bottle to make a real run.

The guaranteed $25 MILLION a year for NIL has to be impressive to Lane Kiffin.

Saban and Sexton both told Lane that if he wants to win a NC his best bet was LSU. FL offered $1M more than LSU and $2M more than OM. This is from an OM source.

This is strictly a business decision. It doesn’t hurt that his daughter is dating Whit Weeks and Whit’s mother loves LSU and Landry Kiffen.

Kiffen is able to reunite with O as well. College Football is very nervous about this whole Kiffen/O/Wilson/Raymond deal. Verge is the right guy to put this together. The Tiger Football Alumni are all behind this too. While maybe not the perfect storm, it’s close.

Yep- been told this by people involved with NIL at Ole Miss. Has money made it easier? Of course- so has Lane because he’s “cool”. But it is absolutely still a factor
