I think USC has buyers remorse at this point. And I think anyone giving $90 million to Lane Kiffin will as well.

I don’t understand paying this amount of money for a coach when it’s clear that college football is moving to the NFL model with coaches being fired after 2-3 years if they can’t win. College football is now “win now”. No program building.

So why make a 7 year investment in one guy when there’s no more program building in college football. NFL teams wouldn’t do this. Why college? If anything coaches should have less value than ever before because the players go where they are paid the most.

Coaches make an obscene amount of money.

Salary should be a base # amd then performance based. Salary should be supplemented by endorsement deals and bonuses if you get to conference championship, conference title, playoffs, how you finish, i.e. Natty or not.

I hate what NIL has done to college sports.

Also the only thing of note that he's done is win 2 CUSA titles. That's not worth Kirby Smart money, especially with all the drama he brings.

They’re in The Playoffs with a win tomorrow and against UCLA next weekend.

I have a friend that’s a USC fan. They view Riley like we viewed Les towards the end-incapable of putting a good product on the field. They do have buyers remorse and he reminds me that what we’re doing and feeling with Lane right now is exactly the same as them back in 2021. They don’t care about making playoffs, they want to win championships.

Les has a NC and NC appearance.

He put a great product on the field, but so did Saban at bama, at exactly the same time.

These two are not the same.

Lane Kiffin and LSU is a good fit

he's going to be funny, he's going to be on social media helping the Brand become bigger and better than ever, he's going to troll along the journey- at the end of the day, the whole thing is entertainment!

and he's going to win big

the Purple and Gold is about to go an nice run!

I think this will blow up in our faces.

I will happily eat crow, though.

I will say if they pull this off, no matter how it works out, everyone needs to shut the frick up about the sky is falling. This is about as big a coup as you can get in modern college football.

If they pull it off.

I think people like the idea of Lane because they know LSU will be talked about more- whether we’re winning or not. Hearing LSU on the TV, radio, podcasts, etc. is what gets some of you fired up. Good for the brand and possibly recruiting, but winning is more important. Lane should be able to win here, but hasn’t proven that anywhere else. That’s the only reservation. Still the best option though, and if we want him, we’re going to have to pay up.

For as forward thinking as LSU had been on this in regards to the GM model, I'm really surprised that we are falling behind on this. I guess maybe that was Woodwards old plans. But this is not going at all the way that I hoped

Gotta see it through the finish line. Only wild card here is Lane. What is he thinking about?

Kiffin is battle tested in the SEC. Everyone else is a crap shoot.

At least we know we will be competitive if he commits to the job and doesn’t pull a BK.

Is it your money? I do not understand this argument whatsoever. How does the size of the contract affect LSU in anyway? It’s the boosters dough; if they want to pay it, then so be it.

You get the guy you want. That’s all that matters

Because if you look at money allocated to the football program, assume it’s one lump sum. That sum can be used on players or coaches. So the more that goes to a coach means less going to the roster.

And a Brian Kelly $53 mil payout coming from boosters (money better spent on players) is too big of risk here.

What sports allocate 35-40%. of their spend to a Head Coach?
