Some are concerned that Nolan will ground it too much. How does the board feel about his comments?

From Grok:

quote:

In an Empire Interview, Nolan explained grounding the supernatural in natural phenomena that ancients viewed as divine actions, calling it a fun creative breakthrough for his massive Imax adaptation. The comments ignited backlash from skeptics who say it strips away the God's plot-driving power, like poseidon's storms or Athena's aid, while defenders praise it as authentic to Greek worldviews.

quote:

“One of the things I needed to crack was how to approach mythological elements in a sort of real-world way. The big breakthrough creatively in thinking about the gods was that everything that is now explained by science was once supernatural. Lightning, thunder, earthquakes, volcanoes... people are literally seeing gods everywhere; not even the evidence of gods, they're seeing the actions of gods. I don't want to say too much about it beyond indicating that yes, the evidence of the supernatural is all around these people. It's very much part of their lives. And I think it's quite a lot of fun to tap into that.”

It can’t be worse than Troy. At least the gods are in this one.

ETA: Troy is still a good movie. It could have been a great movie had it not taken so many liberties with the story.

Nolan is my favorite film maker of all time, but holy shite what an arrogant and stupid statement.

I dont even have a problem with a grounded movie, but that statement is like coffee house, freshman in college, pseudo intellectual drivel.

Nolan is a big Terrence Malick fan, so I can see him making nature shite looking God like if that makes any sense

I liked Troy too. But it’s a terrible adaptation of The Iliad. Removing the gods influence, killing Menelaus, delaying Achilles death, and allowing Paris to live are inexcusable.

They had a double for Brad that actually had calf muscles.

Hopefully in this one they have a double for Damon that can act.

Nolan likes Ellen Page, who thinks she magically turned into a man, but doesn’t like to have actual mythology in his movies based on mythology?

Part of the reasoning to wait for it to hit streaming so I can turn on subtitles

The first part is technically true but really wrong for the way the story is written and the characters viewed the universe.

The second part is still true for many people today

Great. So yet another project de-mythifying myth. Awesome. Real life is so cool, man.

One of these days we will get someone who will champion myth and not hold back.

Someday…

Lemme guess, more false 'the Greeks were gay' dogma.

So what is Zendaya et al doing in this? Aren't they playing literal gods?

Troy was great. It wasn’t Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven but it was still great.

And yeah holy shite what a smug comment from Nolan but hey he’s earned it. Him and Denis are the best in the game.
