Inspired from that ice post. I think it’s generally agreed to be 18 now but when men died at 40 and married at 13, wtf happened? What’s the math on the number the law selects?

Google AI has the answer you seek
quote:
The age of consent became a law in stages; in England, it was raised to 16 by the 1885 Criminal Law Amendment Act. In the United States, age of consent laws varied by state, with many states setting the age between 10 and 12 in the late 19th century, but by 1920, the age had been raised to 16 or 18 in most states

Late 19th Century: Laws varied significantly by state, with many setting the age between 10 and 12, but some as low as 7 (in Delaware).

The aggy logo should have been your first clue.

For example, Sinaloa sets the minimum age at 12, but presumes that any sex between an adult and a minor under 16 is statutory rape; sex with a minor over 16 is also prosecutable, though usually only at the request of the minor or their legal guardians
There shouldn't be any doubt as to why Central Americans repeatedly mess around with kids. It's probably OK where they come from.

Then it was customary for the groom’s mother to hang out the soiled sheet in front of the newly married couple’s house the morning after the wedding night to prove the girl had been a virgin.

There are countries in this world that force women to mutilate their vaginas so they won’t enjoy sex, wrap in bedsheets in 110 degree weather and never go to school.
Lots of variation in the world dude.

Out of all my ancestors from the past 400 years that I have traced none of them ever had kids until in their 20s. I don’t think it was very common to get married as a teen or whatever.

I used to wonder about this re: Elizabethan times. Was told by a historian that couples didn’t marry until they could establish their own household.
