The " sales" this year are a joke. They might give you 3% off an item.

When price tracking sites showed that the prices are raised right before black Friday, then lowered to their normal price to try to claim being on sale.

The shoes I needed were $55 on Amazon a few days ago. Bought them for $43 yesterday.

For comparison, the same ones cost me $50 about a year ago.

eBooks are where I spend my Black Friday money. They're about the only thing that's legitimately on sale anymore from the price they're typically at.

I think sales can be found but you need to be specific for what you are after versus the thrill of “surprise and delight”.

I would say Covid time period when supply was bare across almost any category of goods really changed the BF approach. Much more Ecomm oriented, really no reason to go in a store.

Used to love the fist fights and people getting stomped to death at Walmart every year.

.

While i think this is a mostly accurate statement, I was able to pickup a GPU for a PC for 60$ less than MSRP off of newegg. In July it was running at approx 120$ above msrp.

So there are spots where you can get a good deal, but mostly its shitty now.

Bass Pro Shops in their Black Friday sale lists a Daiwa Tatula reel.
Regular price $99.99.
Sale price $99.99.
It even lists the savings as being $0.00

They jack up the price only to lower it. The only time I’ve seen decent sales is random days that aren’t holidays.

Speaking of BF I miss all the fights that are uploaded to YouTube when stores open at 4am. Those were what I lived for the day after Thanksgiving waiting to see some good ones.

The problem is that cheap goods are sold at such low margins every day, there just isn't any room to have a BF worthy sale. The only thing that works is when companies get a manufacturer to build a lower spec product just for BF you see this all the time in electronics, especially TVs.

At least as of last year, you could still get good sales on high-quality quality premium-priced products that normally aren't discounted. Often it is just 10 to 20% off but it is one of the few times they are discounted, so it is a deal.

Its stores selling so many of certain items at cost so that everyone who goes there to try to buy that item at a limited cost will buy a bunch of other shite. That's pretty much black friday.
