I don’t understand the obsession with this trend. Why does every living space have to look like a sterile doctor’s office?

I don’t love the modern look, but the gaudy grandmas house of 1990 doesn’t look good either

I do like that they cut a hallway through that door though

That's not even the same house huh? Why would they narrow the turn in the stares... Look at the banister...

I think you just like modern furniture because its generally shorter legs and closer to floor

Agreed, every new commercial building looks like the lobby / breakfast area of a Hyatt Place.

Joe Pesci would probably say that wallpaper looked better on Marisa Tomei’s arse.

The Home Alone House is actually at the Lincoln Ave address in Winnetka mentioned in the movie, which is a little weird. We drove my nephews by it once. Usually they mask film locations as much as they can, but this one is easy to find.

That house where all exterior and neighborhood scenes were. It's a very pretty neighborhood and one of the nicer suburbs of Chicago. To this day the neighborhood is still expensive even by Chicago standards. House has been well preserved, but there is fencing in front of it now for more privacy and the garage in the film was removed.

But the interior of it was too compact and small to make it work with a wide angle lens for filming. The older picture you have is not of the actual house. The interior shots in that movie were a set built at a nearby high school; the set was nearly identical to the house interior but about 20% larger in every dimension and included different colors and lighting that worked better with the camera.

The interior of the house next door that flooded in the film was built in that school's swimming pool.

The scene where Kevin slides across the ice after shoplifting is in Hubbard Woods, right near the UP-North Metra line.

Not based on some of the stuff I looked up after seeing this thread.

Is there a reason why every other street in that neighborhood has street view but that one doesn’t?

Were the owners able to pay google off?

The 1990s version looks so much more “homie,“ cozy, and warm. It looks like a place you’d wanna go to for Christmas.

The current version looks cold and lifeless. It’s like having to go to Los Angeles to stay with your pompous, arrogant, “keeping up with the Joneses“ in-laws for Christmas.

It was becoming a tourist attraction. It's a private home and the neighbors and the homeowner were all getting annoyed.
