Laissez les bons temps rouler! Waymo is bringing its fully autonomous ride-hailing service to New Orleans.

We visited New Orleans last year, and the Waymo Driver found the Big Easy, easy to navigate. From the large crowds in the French Quarter to navigating the city’s storied streets, our Driver safely navigated the complexity of the city.

As we continue to expand our service, we are focused on integrating seamlessly with the community and alongside existing transportation options. Our technology is designed to improve mobility and road safety, directly aligning with New Orleans’ Safe Streets for All initiative. In fact, data shows the Waymo Driver is involved in 5x fewer crashes with injuries than a human driver.

“The future of transportation is here and it’s rolling into Louisiana,” said Josh Fleig, Chief Innovation Officer at Louisiana Economic Development. “Waymo’s work reflects the kind of forward-thinking investment that positions Louisiana at the center of innovation in mobility, safety, and technology.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Waymo to New Orleans and bring cutting-edge, autonomous transportation to our community,” shared Pamela Allen, Executive Director of the Louisiana Center for the Blind and President of the National Federation of the Blind of Louisiana. For blind and low vision individuals, this represents meaningful progress toward greater freedom, independent travel, and full participation. We are truly grateful for Waymo’s partnership and look forward to building a more accessible future together. The possibilities are endless!”

When we do launch, we aim to offer residents and the city’s millions of visitors alike a safe, reliable, and magical way to get around directly via the Waymo app. Whether you’re meeting friends in Mid-City, heading to the CBD for a late shift, or just exploring the city’s unique charm, Waymo is looking forward to making local travel easier for everyone in New Orleans.

Love them. Easier to get than Uber, cheaper by a large degree and no tipping. If they can navigate around downtown Austin (limited area for the vehicles) they will be fine in downtown & CBD Nola. It's an uncanny valley experience the first time you ride in one through.

I was skeptical when I first saw them in other cities. I rolled the dice and took it several times during a work trip in San Francisco. It was pretty cool and a lot less awkward than uber/lyft.

hopefully we get uber drivers at the city council meeting threatening to slash Waymo tires like we did when Taxi drivers threatened to slash uber tires

I was locked into that council meeting thread and i was only considering a job offer in New Orleans

I hate to break it to you, but I’ve ridden one in San Fran and it was excellent.

They can’t deal with roads in Atlanta. I can’t image the chaos with NOLA.

I'd definitely try it out somewhere like San Fran. I'm just skeptical about this in the New Orleans atmosphere.

I've probably taken them a dozen or so times in Austin and think they're great

Has it figured out the no left turns in parts of the city and needing to go up one more to uturn? Or is it just going to block traffic at these intersections?

What could go right? These things are awesome. Don't have to make small talk with people and should be cheaper.

As long as they're wearing their 1/4 zips, Nola should be perfectly safe.
