How would you negotiate with Sexton?

Take Kiffin out of it… I do feel for these ADs in a way. They are constantly dealing with an agent who has the CFB industry by the balls and has shown to negotiate in bad faith in the past.
Not sure how you approach a shot at a big name coach repped by Sexton and “sexton-proof” your method.
You could play hard ball with him from the jump to not let him play you but then he likely pulls his client away, and you miss on a big fish.

Listen mother fricker, we want Coach Kiffin and here’s what we’re offering. We need an answer within 72 hours. Here’s my number, call me when he gives his answer.”

You make a fair offer and then find out if he’s the boss or his client is. Then you find out if his client wants the job or the biggest paycheck. Then you accept the results

Ask up front what it will take to get the coach here.
Work down from there. The moment games are played respond with silence.
First one to flinch loses.

What’s interesting is sexton is telling lane lsu is the better football job of the three.

I’d challenge him to an eating contest

Yeah I’m hearing him and Saban are saying that.

You have to play his game for a bit, but after a few “well they’re offering” responses you drop your best offer in front of him and it’s a take it or leave it.
I think both UF and LSU are close to that point, and I think they already have OM’s offer.

He’s not stupid

Yes!
And tell him you will go public, stating he isn't a candidate after those 72 hours expire.
That takes away some of their leverage.

Sit down at the table, slide the envelope full of pictures of him and a number of co-eds in various compromising positions, along with affidavits from people who saw or did coke with him, and make him understand.

You don't negotiate with Sexton. You get fricked by Sexton.

I can guarantee you his agency (CAA) is dying to get another foot hold in LSU and all that entails. (Signing Athletes, working on NFL deals, NIL negotiations, Etc) One thing that doesn't get talked about is NFL agent commission is capped at 3%. There is no commission caps when working with college athletes, so agents now a days want to be involved in NIL deals and LSU is a big one.
They haven't had easy access in a while because our coaches have not been CAA clients.
So realizing that CAA and Sexton have a reason to want to be part of LSU football, LSU can play a little hard ball with him. If I was Verge I would say "you will not get access to our program ever if you dick me around on the search."
Even if Kiffin decides not to come there is strong motivation for Sexton to try to get one of his other coaches the LSU job.
