Hall of Fame? Hall of Very Good, or Nostalgia?

Do any of the following get into the Hall or are they just on the outside looking in? Or is it just our nostalgia making them better than we thought?
Frank Gore, lot of stats, played for a long long long time, was he ever the top 2 or 3 in the NFL?
Joey Porter and James Harrison, pivotal members of a championship runs and fantastic defense
Lorenzo Neal, best FB of his era, but do FB get in?
Phillip Rivers, lots of stats and years, played on some good teams, never won the AFC
Eddie George, solid career, solid numbers, played in a Super Bowl, lead league in rushing 4 time pro bowl
Russell Wilson, 2 Super Bowls, Payton MOY, 9 pro bowls
Matt Ryan
There is many more, but who out of that list is HOF, and who can you add to HOVG? Add any others you like

Frank gore will get in.
Isn’t he lime 3rd or 4th on all time rushing yardage list?
I also believe rivers will get in and also should. I think he was a better qb than both Big Ben and Eli.
He was just stuck on the chargers while they ended up in great organizations.

Tarkenton
Wasn't he the total yards leader for a career when he retired or something like that?

Of the QBs, Rivers and Ryan feel like almost the same guy but for the fact that Ryan appeared in a SB. I think both should and will get in. Russell Wilson no. He was well on his way based on his time in Seattle but did not have as many productive years as his peers, and his performance since leaving will be a huge black mark on his career. Seems like the book is closed on his career as a starter

Probably, but would he be debated today?
The watering down of passes stats and the Brady dynasty all about rings have muddied things up too much. We should be able to admit that if a guy is clearly a top 5 passer for a solid decade plus, then he should definitely be in the Hall. Shouldn’t really be a debate with Rivers

Ryne Sandberg is not a hall of gamer
Lou Whitaker was better in every way, no hall

Gore - eventually due to numbers accumulated and longevity
Poster - yes
Harrison - yes
Beal - no. Solely due to position
Rivers - yes
George - yes
Wilson - he shouldn’t but likely will
Ryan - possibly, probably, maybe

Its funny that the Hall of Fame has become "best players after evaluating objective criteria" even thought thats not technically what it is or is intended to be. Then we further unintentionally point that out by acting like Fame is the next level up from Very Good.
im ok with dudes being in the HOF because they are a definitive part of the history of the sport in addition to being good players. Thats why its not called the Hall of Great.

Out of that list, Philip Rivers(and also add Ben Roethlisberger) would be the very first players inducted into the HOF without at least one second team All Pro.

Brady, Brees, and P Manning were all clearly better quarterbacks from the same era.
A-Rod is better and outplayed Ben in the Super Bowl.
So they'd be 5A and 5B. If you switched them Rivers would most likely have championships and Ben wouldn't.

Matt Ryan was 7th in career passing yards and 9th in career passing tds at the time of his retirement. He has moved down one spot in each category since he retired. He’s a MVP winner as well. If he doesn’t get in the HoF, why bother having one?

James Harrison is the most deserving of that group, as he actually has 2 All-Pro selections.
None of these should get in until Lester Hayes, Deron Cherry and Joey Browner are admitted.
Frank Gore had a good long career of longevity and consistency, but he shouldn't get in until Roger Craig is admitted.
Lorenzo Neal is caught being in the Special Teams circle, like Devin Hester, Brian Mitchell and Eric Metcalf, being a pure fullback in the sense of simply blocking and catching a pass every now and then.
But Morten Anderson and Ray Guy are in the HoF, so no reason why a dude who was for a long time the best at his craft in the NFL shouldn't get in. Shane Lechler should also get in for his dominance as a punter.

There should be a "Hall of Role Players" somewhere.
guys that were huge parts of helping Hall of Famers win titles but weren't even in Hall discussion themselves.

I personally think it should be reserved for the guys who moved the game forward, who revolutionized the game. If you’re a guy who’s on the fence or you need multiple attempts to get in, then you shouldn’t be enshrined. Hell, hold inductions once every 5 years and make it mean something.

Gore had over 9k yards from scrimmage and almost 40 tds AFTER he turned 30 when most RBs are retired or retiring at that age. He’s 4th all-time in NFL history in yards from scrimmage.
Craig had two great seasons and a whole lot of meh otherwise and that’s with elite teammates around him. His counting stats aren’t in the same ballpark as Gore’s.

Rickey Watters was as every bit as good as Roger Craig and certainly is a better all-around back than Gore was.
