Regarding Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano
-
Kilauea's eruption on November 17, 2025, is part of a series of eruptions since December 2024, with lava fountains reaching over 1,500 feet, as reported by the USGS.
-
The volcano's activity includes high levels of volcanic gas and the formation of Pele's hair, posing hazards to areas downwind.
-
Kilauea's historical eruptions, like the 60-year ‘Aila‘au eruption, have significantly shaped its caldera through dramatic collapses.
-
The current eruption's lava flows are confined to Halema?uma?u crater, with an average rate exceeding 600 cubic yards per second from dual fountains

Do you also get the high levels of volcanic gas?

I had one of these a few days ago. My 2yo had gone to the bathroom with me and pointed out my “two pees”.

The wife overheard but didn’t understand. She had no idea that split streams were possible and had her mind blown when I explained it.

I went to see it a couple months back and it was erupting but not that bad

The crazy thing is there is a hiking path you could take to the caldera and walk around it

I chose not to do that.

Thank you for the pictures, I can barely imagine the power it takes to launch molten rock that high, much less the strength of the rock mass between the two fountains that is keeping them separate (until it melts from heat + power.

Well that should help with the global cooling we are supposed to be worried about now. I’m guessing this will also somehow make sea levels rise.
