Why dont the Dolphins get talked about as one of the worst run franchises in football?

Their stretch of futility has been much worse than the Cowboys.
They havent won a playoff game in 25 years. They havent been to the conference Championship since 1992.
This is the longest stretch in the NFL behind only the Browns I believe.

Agree and for us old hats they were an upper tier franchise for 20+ years so it is puzzling. Ownership played a big part, post Joe Robbie it hasn’t been great. Post his son it’s been as bad as any franchise.

Because they stay consistently mediocre rather than bottom out like the Browns or Jets, who have had higher highs more recently than the Dolphins.

Kinda agree. Usually just pad enough to miss playoffs, but not bad enough to get top 5 draft picks. Also, they don’t seem to get much media attention in general, haven’t had a big star in forever and seem to have an apathetic fan base. Also, like the Bills, they were consistently beat down by the Patriots the last two decades.

Because they have gotten an insane amount of mileage out of being really good in the 70s.

It's still beyond belief how the good teams in the 70s make up what feels like half of the NFL fanbases across the country.
Cowboys
Steelers
Dolphins
Packers (carry over from the 60s)
Raiders
Even teams like SF and NE don't have near the national following, yet won as much or more than any of those teams in the 80s, 90s and 00s

As a Dolphins fan I can tell you, they are the most gutless organization in sports. When it comes to nut-cutting time, they will fold every single time.

SF does have big national following
Lots of people grew up watching Montana and Rice and became fans because of that
There were games AT New Orleans even with Brees still playing that the 49ers away crowd was still loud as hell

That was the era when you'd only have access to 1-2 games (not counting MNF) max. And that number includes "maybe" the local team... If they local team wasn't blacked out because they're trash. No Sunday ticket available.
