Too often programs get left at the alter last minute by a coach who wants to string the program along, act like their commit and then they bolt to the next opportunity. Esp someone who’s notorious for bolting on programs like kiffin is.

Giving him a timeline to decide if he’s in or out long term allows them to see if kiffin is there for the long haul or gives them a chance to jumpstart finding his replacement. I fully get why they wanna answer sooner rather than later.

Will you respect them when he’s gone and they’re back to a perennial 5 win a year program again like they always are?

It doesn’t help them in the slightest. What are they gonna do fire him? A competent administration could have a list of possible replacements either way.

Kiffin has all the advantage in that situation. You think Ole Miss would fire the best coach in the history of their program when they're 10-1???

Nah.. They're bluffing.

Them making it public is very head scratching because if there isn’t an immediate public response from Kiffin then everyone is going to assume he is gone.

All they can do is keep a list of possible candidates if he does decide to leave. They can’t force him to make a decision one way or the other and they’re not stupid enough to fire him and basically give him a multi million dollar bonus on the way out the door.

I hope Ole Miss would give an ultimatum, but they won’t. They know they have no leverage here.

Problem is by the time Kiffin season is over all coaches that you potentially had on your list will be where they are going to be for 2026.

Remember it will basically be mid January by then with spring ball just two months away by that point.

It’s no different than dating a really hot girl.

She can be absolutely nuts and will still always have people shooting their shot.

You have to be able to handle it and be confident enough not to lose it without looking like a bitch, it’s not the easiest balance especially when you’re out at a bar or something.

That’s the situation Ole Miss is in right now and they’re trying the ultimatum path, it’ll be interesting how it plays out.

I don’t

Lane has ALL the leverage here. If they want to keep him why do anything that might piss him off and push him to leave?

Why do anything that might even potentially disrupt their best chance to win anything of significance since before most of use here were born?

It’s a stupid move at all levels and risks turning them back into an SEC doormat
